Dave Cohn Obituary

Dave S. Cohn

Dave S. (formerly known as Paul David) Cohn, of Oakland, passed away on June 16, 2016. He was born in Toronto, Canada, to Martin and Tmima Cohn, and moved to the United States in the early 1940s.

Dave committed his life to his family, public service, and public health. He worked in several state and federal public health programs before entering the foreign service in 1980. During his 19 years as a Health and Population Officer with the Agency for International Development, he worked and lived in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Uganda, Peru, and Washington, D.C. He was at the forefront of AIDS prevention efforts, working in AIDS programs for the State of California and developing an extremely successful AIDS education and prevention program in Uganda in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 9 years, Alice Beasley, with whom he traveled around the world. He is also survived by daughters Tamara (Chuck) Krimm and Deborah (Peter) Sauer, and their mother, Irene Cohn; loving grandsons, Noah, Benjamin, and Daniel Sauer; nieces and nephew, Leslie Cohn (Jim Scheurich), Liz (Jeff) Mings, and Josh Cohn; cousins Michael (Sandi) Littner, Joan Littner, and Eydie (Bob) Romano; brother, John (Cristi) Cohn, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tmima Cohn, father, Martin Cohn, and brother, Alan Cohn. He is remembered fondly for, and his legacy lives on in his family in, a love of chocolate, humor, travel, running, and cars.

He was loved, and is missed.
