My sincere condolences to the entire McElhatton family and particularly my friend Russ. I was Dave's teaching assistant one summer in the '70s at San Francisco State. He was a warm, funny & generous guy and was a great teacher. I am grateful to have known him and for the time I got to spend with him.

I had the pleasure and fun of working with Dave at KCBS in the 60's and continued our friendship for many years after that. What a bunch we were - Dave, Helen, Fred Goerner, station manager Jules Dundes, and so many other broadcast legends, that we started the group "Broadcast Legends" in the 1980s. While at KCBS, Dave, Fred and I began and wrote an in-house newsletter that Dave - attesting to his finite sense of humor - called "Disappearing Ink." That was Dave. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
