Dave Mezzetta Obituary

Dave Mezzetta
10/23/1951 - 11/06/2024
It is with great sadness, we announce that Dave passed away on Nov. 6, 2024, at his home in Goleta, CA, after a long battle with an illness. He was 73 years old.
Dave was born Oct. 23, 1951, in Burlingame, CA to Cesare & Pierina Mezzetta & lived in South San Francisco. He attended Serra High in San Mateo & then UC Santa Barbara where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Economics & Italian.
Dave was very proud of his Italian heritage. His father was born in Italy & his mother was born in California & was raised in North Beach, San Francisco.
Dave loved sports! He was a diehard fan of the Bay Area teams, following them from his youth. He was also an excellent athlete, playing basketball in high school & continued into his late 30's. He loved playing flag football in college.
Dave's first big break was managing the S.B. County Bowl. He later went to work in the restaurant business doing accounting. After connecting with Steve Ridgeway, he decided to take night classes to enhance his accounting knowledge & certifications while maintaining his day job. He became a CPA & then partner at Ridgeway & Warner & worked there for nearly 40 years. Dave took his work very seriously & regularly worked excessively during the tax season.
Dave met Maureen at UCSB & they later married in 1979. They raised their 2 boys, Joe & Russ, in Goleta. Providing for his family was at the core of Dave's life. He would do anything & everything to make sure his family had all that they needed. Dave & Maureen spent years watching their sons play sports, including soccer, baseball, basketball & Dave traveled with them to many sporting events throughout California & Nevada.
Dave loved animals, especially dogs. He had many collies throughout his life.
The one thing Dave was noted for was his dry sense of humor. His jokes never waivered. They were sharp & witty. He loved to make people laugh.
Dave was an avid reader & was enthusiastic & very knowledgeable about history including World Wars & he read historical biographies, mysteries and suspenseful thrillers. His office was surrounded by bookshelves containing over 1,000 books.
Dave is survived by his brothers, Robert and Bruno; his wife, Maureen; his sons, Joe (Jessica); with grandchildren, Landon and Zoey, Russ (Laurel); and grandchildren, Lyra and Cato.

Dear Maureen: You may not remember me but I certainly remember you and Dave very fondly. We were introduced many, many years ago by Dave McDermott. I was lucky enough to share your company when I visited Santa Barbara. We shared a particularly enjoyable dinner one Friday night following a favorable jury verdict I scored that afternoon! And, after all, Maureen, I was the guy who introduced you to John Travolta and arranged for him to meet James Taylor with your beautiful assistance at the County Bowl one night!! Your husband was a terrific fellow! As his obit mentioned he had a wonderful wit that brought a smile to my face whenever I thought of him. He was as nice as he was big. Because of mileage and my infrequent visits to Santa Barbara our friendship did not get to develop as I would have wanted. But I wanted you and your family to know what a fond and memorable impact Dave was on me. I am very sorry for your loss and mine! I wish you the very best! Terry Redmond
