First off, my condolences on your father's passing. My great-aunt Marion Devlin worked with your dad for many years at the Times-Herald and the VIP. I first met him on a tour through the T-H newsroom as a young boy. My aunt would send me many of your dad's sketches of famous athletes and they would cover the walls of my bedroom as a kid - they were treasured and I still have them.
Years later - when I began covering sports for the Oakland Tribune, my great aunt sent some of my stuff to your dad - he wrote a note praising my work. Having relatives in the business saying they like your work was one thing - you know, they're relatives they might just be being nice - but getting that note from your dad (I still have that as well) meant the world to me. It still does, just thinking about it.
My aunt Marion told me once "Dan, Newspaper people are just the most special people." When I think of your dad - that's what I think of. He was one of my aunt's favorites. One of mine as well.
My best to you and your family. Dave will be missed.
