David Maxion Obituary

David Westley Maxion 1929 - 2010 Passed away peacefully on July 19, 2010 in Brentwood, CA. David was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on July 20, 1929. He was one of six children, born to Richard Westley Maxion and Mary Evans. In his early life, David joined the U.S. Army and was sent to Korea, during the Korean War. There, half way around the world, he met the love of his life, Chong Woon Kwon, who would be his wife for the next 61 years. After the war and the birth of their two children, Richard and Mary, David moved his new family back to Scranton, where the last three of his children, Carol, Cindy and David, would be born. By 1963, he and his wife moved to California, where David found work with San Francisco Municipal Railway ("Muni"). After retiring from Muni, David and Chong moved to San Mateo for most of the remainder of their lives. David was a devoted husband to his wife and to his children , "a father's father." He was admired by his friends and his great character elicited respect from those whom he met. Loving and caring, David was always there for his wife and family. David became a parent at an early age and, as a result, his love of family, responsible nature and hard work ethic made him the ideal father. Although David received little formal education, he understood its value, sending two of their sons through law school and a daughter through nursing school. Throughout his life, David enjoyed country music, studying history, working with his hands, often repairing and remodeling his homes. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and late in his life, he especially enjoyed spending time with his new grandson, Taesan and was able to meet his new granddaughter, Tiana, before passing away. Most of all, David enjoyed being with his wife, Chong. He enjoyed taking long walks with her and travelling to Maui, Hawaii, their favorite destination. Unfortunately, Chong passed away in 2009. This loss was so heavy on his heart that he would live only eleven more months. His loss brings us great sadness, but there is solace knowing that David is again reunited with Chong, a match made and ending in Heaven. The memory of him will fill and warm our hearts, a memory of love, courage and triumph. David is survived by his sons Richard and David, daughters Mary, Carol and Cindy, daughter-in-law Sanya, grandson Taesan and granddaughter Tiana. Private services will be held by the family.

I did not know Davy personally, but he was my dad's friend. My father did not know Davy passed away, and he will be sad when I have to tell him. My regards and sympathies to Davy's family, and may God give his soul and that of Chong, light, peace, and rest in His Kingdom forever.
