David Patterson Obituary
David was born on November 21, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mildred L. and Leslie T. Patterson. He graduated with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and a master's in engineering management from the University of Utah. He worked in the industrial security field for over 55 years and was recognized as an expert in safety, security, loss prevention, emergency management, business continuity, and anti-terrorism. He was principal partner in Patterson & Associates International Consulting, published numerous articles and textbooks, and spoke at countless seminars (domestically and abroad) on the topics of industrial security, risk assessments, and contingency planning. David was a recognized author and trainer with the ASIS International Physical Security Council. He held several certifications including Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), American Board for Certification Homeland Security (ABCHS-III), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
After spending his early years living in Utah, David relocated to Marin County in 1977. He and his wife spent over 12 years working overseas in Saudi Arabia, returning to Marin County in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie A. Patterson, brother John R. Patterson of Grand Prairie, TX, five children (David Lex Patterson, Lori Patterson McCrary, Frank S. Polizzi, Lisa Polizzi Jalot, Daniel B. Polizzi), 16 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In a final expression of his compassionate heart, and desire to love and help others, he gave the gift of organ donation. David was a gentle, loving soul and will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
