David Seid Obituary

David Ming Seid

May 8, 1956 - May 9, 2017

David Ming Seid, 61, died suddenly Monday, May 9, 2017 in San Francisco.

David was born May 8, 1956, in Greenville, Mississippi. He was the youngest of 7 children to parents Robert (deceased) and Mary. In the summer of 1967, the family moved from Mississippi to California. He graduated from Berkeley High School and went to University of California, Berkeley. He worked as a postman in San Mateo for several years. In 1981, David was accepted to the San Francisco Police Academy. While volunteering for the SF Police Activities League, he met his future wife, Lynette Lee, daughter of SF Police sergeant Herbert Lee and his wife Dorothy. During their 26 years of marriage, they raised 3 beautiful daughters – and many German Shepherds.

David retired in 2011 after thirty years as a San Francisco police officer. He was honored with several Medals of Valor and a Medal of Honor during his service. In his retirement, he became a world traveler, an avid golfer, and enjoyed traveling to Alaska with friends and family on fishing expeditions.

In his last two years, David underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment for a rare lung cancer. Our deepest gratitude is extended to the doctors, nurses and staff at UCSF Mount Zion.

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert; and his sister, MaryAnn Seid Lam.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Seid; his sisters Barbara Moon, Patricia Seid, and Donna Seid; his brothers Robert Seid and William Seid; his daughters Andrea, Christa and Jenna Seid, and his beloved dog Otis, as well as his numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 13, at Garden Chapel, 885 El Camino Real, South San Francisco, CA 94080. Friends and family may call 650-583-2510.
David was a lifelong dog lover, and he owned several German Shepherd dogs, Beau, Zoe, Chaos, and Otis. Contributions in memory of David may be made to the Milo Foundation (http://milofoundation.org/donate.cfm) the animal sanctuary that David rescued Otis from.

He will always be loved and cherished by his family, and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Dave was one of the best human beings I have ever known. In my 25 years of working with Dave at SFPD, I never heard Dave complain or say a bad word about anyone. He was an incredible police officer and an honest and kind man. I also had the privilege of spending many hours of off duty time playing golf with Dave. Good round, bad round - Dave always had a smile on his face. Thank you Dave for everything. I will miss you.

Seid Family, I worked with Dave at Northern Station, and as you all know already, Dave was one of the nicest gentlemen I ever came across in my police career. Always had this great big smile, and would always ask how YOU were doing. I was very saddened to learn of his passing, so soon after retiring. My condolences to the extended family.
