Dawn Smith Obituary

OELWEIN - Dr. Dawn A. Smith, DC, CCWP, 38, of Brodhead, Wis., and formerly of Oelwein, died with her family at her side on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at St. Luke's East Hospital in Lee's Summit, Mo.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Paul C. McManus officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
The family will greet friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, where there will be a parish scripture service at 7 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Dawn Ann Smith was born Nov. 4, 1973, at Oelwein, the daughter of Dana Alan and Diann Marie (Adams) Smith. Dawn was an honor roll student and 1992 graduate of Oelwein Community High School where she was a member of the conference champion volleyball team and was a member of the track team that received a third place finish at the state track meet. Dawn went to Graceland University at Lamoni, Iowa on a track scholarship. She received the Graceland Leadership Award, the Biology Award and was an Academic All-American at Graceland where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. Dawn continued her education at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport. She received the Palmer College Meritorious Adjustor Award and graduated with her Doctor of Chiropractic Degree in 2001. Dawn practiced in Dallas, Texas for two years and then purchased Brodhead Chiropractic Center in Brodhead, Wis., where she has practiced for the past eight years. She was also a Certified Fitness Trainer with the International Sports Science Association and a Certified Wellness Practitioner. Dawn was an active member of the Brodhead Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association from which she received the New Chiropractor of the Year, Nels Bakke Award. Dawn also was the owner and operator of Ener G life Natural Supplement Company.
Dawn is survived by her parents Dana and Diann Smith of Oelwein; two brothers, Dustin Smith of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Derek Smith of Oelwein; a nephew Darrin Smith of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; maternal grandparents Gene and Betty Adams of Oelwein; paternal grandparents Merle and Jean Smith of Oelwein and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
