Died after a short illness. Predeceased by his siblings Bill and Mary Ann, and beloved first and final wife, Yvette. Cherished father of four children with Yvette: Carole Hughes (Ralph), Janet Twohey (Rick Gilmore), Ann Bennett (Jim), Joan Twohey-Jacobs, and two children with second wife Jerilou: Paul Twohey, and Rebecca Wright (Matt). Also leaves behind ten grateful grandchildren. His last 6 years were made sweeter by Dorothy Geduldig. We would all like to thank Una, Sam and Miri for their tender care. Born in Livermore, Don lived the whole of his life in Northern California, and maintained a lifetime love affair with the Sierra Nevada. Don worked for the National Labor Relations Board for more than twenty years, and as an arbitrator after retiring from the Board. He helped establish the California Agricultural Labor Relations Board in the late 1970's. In retirement, he had more time to devote to his passions. He was an avid fly fisherman, backpacker and hiker. He worked on trail crews along the Pacific Crest Trail (sometimes with his grandsons) well into his eighties. As a productive gardener, he shared his bounty with us all, became a Master Food Preserver, and a great cook. Don loved life, and was planning his next adventures (to the Grand Canyon and the Feather River) even on the day he died. Looking back on his life, Don would say that he'd had a wonderful life, full of love. Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at Divine Savior Catholic Church 9079 Greenback Lane, Orangevale, CA on Saturday, August 29 at 11:00 AM In lieu of flowers, Don requested donations to Sacramento Food Bank or an organization of your choice. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Dear Twohey family, sending you sympathy and warm thoughts at this difficult time. I always remember your dad as someone who taught you to question authority and to probe for truth!

I'll never forget the ride to Sacramento with Don for my interview with Rose Bird! I got the job, and thus was launched my labor relations career after college. Thank you Don for all the wisdom you shared with a young kid! I tried to always put it to use. :)

I had so many great work weeks with Don on the PCT. Always wonderful hearing his stories and especially getting to have some of his fantastic pancakes.

Don Twohey taught me how to fly fish. It's a method of fishing that I am proud to say I have learned and appreciated. I have done a lot of fishing in my life, but have never enjoyed it more than the pureness of fly fishing. For periods of time (trips to go fly fishing and family gatherings) Don and I spent some time time together. I garnered a lot of respect for him. He and his wife Yvette raised a wonderful family together. Myself and my children were the beneficiaries of that and appreciate it. I am sorry I didn't have more contact with Don in recent years, but will always remember and treasure the times I did. My children (his grandsons) loved their Grandfather. He was a no-nonsense, yet compassionate man. We will all do well to live up to his standards and dedication to the things he loved.
I believe I speak for myself as well as my sons when I say he touched our lives in a most wonderful way. I hope my boys always remember him with the affection I have. He will be sorely missed.
Please find enjoyment in celebrating his life. I apologize for not being able to make it to the services.
