Douglas Shorenstein Obituary

Douglas Shorenstein

We mourn the loss of Douglas Shorenstein. A giant in the industry, he had a brilliant instinct for business and a great heart for philanthropy. His partnership with the Swig Families and Weiler Arnow Families spanned many decades, and we benefited through the generations from his thoughtful counsel, his integrity and his generosity. A leader in the community and a great friend to us all, we mourn his loss and extend our heartfelt condolences from both San Francisco and New York to his wife, Lydia, his children, Brandon, Sandra and Danielle Shorenstein; and sister, Carol Shorenstein Hays. -Swig Families and Weiler Arnow Families

My condolences to the family

Douglas and Lydia bought 2590 Divisidero St. from the late Dr. Frank and Martha Gerbode, who, with Countess de Tessau of the City of Paris family at 2724 Pacific Ave. bought, tore down and subdivide my Grandparents' mansion at 2716 Pacific Ave. when Grandmother passed in 1966. Only the driveway remains from the 1906 property. I knew the Divisidero home well, but only corresponded with Doug. My heart goes out to Lydia and the family for the loss. My Dad died of a heart attack at age 55 in 1959, way to young, as was Doug. God Bless You, Rick Bradley

Douglas was the lesser wellknown Shorenstein than FatherWalter or SisterCarol but still carved a niche in the BayArea skyline for himself.

As a proud Fifth generation San Franciscan, I recognized that the name Shorenstein was synonymous with Herb Caen, Cable Cars, Sour Dough Bread and anything else that is San Francisco....was sad to see the passing of Walter; devastating to see Doug's passing at such a young age; had much more to accomplish! As a former broker at Milton Meyer/The Shorenstein Company, I got to see the inner workings of the ever evolving business.....what Doug did was as much civic as it was Family a business.......Thank you, Doug for your contribution to a better place and may you now be at rest in an even better place....God Bless you and your Family!!!!

My heart goes out to Lydia and family at the untimely passing of Doug earlier this week. May your memories of him always include a prayer of thanksgiving for his life and love, and may God bless you and grant you peace.
