Edward Tempone Obituary

Edward Joseph Tempone
January 9, 1937 - January 28, 2021
Edward Joseph Tempone, a loving husband for 64 years, a wonderful and amazing father of three daughters, a nonno and bisnonno, and a passionate caretaker of classic cars, peacefully passed away on January 28, 2021 from complications of cancer.

A lifelong resident of California, Ed was born on January 9, 1937 in San Francisco, CA to William Tempone Sr. and Manuella Alcaraz. He was the oldest brother to siblings William Jr. and Bobby. Ed was a graduate of San Francisco's Balboa High School (Class of 1954,) which was a place of fond memories that he spoke about frequently throughout his life. At Balboa, he met his to-be wife, Irma Giudici. The couple married in 1957.

After serving in the US Navy Reserve, Ed became a delivery man for Airborne Express, and proudly joined Teamsters, Local 85. He retired after 43 years. Driving a truck for a living fit perfectly with his passion for automobiles. He and his brother Bill enjoyed working together in restoring vintage cars to factory quality, and Ed's hard work on a 1964 Thunderbird earned awards (including 1st Place, Stock '63-'68, at the 2002 Russian River Car Show.)

More than cars, though, he loved the camaraderie of people. Ed was a member of the Peninsula Italian American Social Club and Golden Gate Street Machines Unlimited, and he participated in charity events benefitting the Ronald McDonald House and other programs.

"Nono Ed" died in his sleep at home in San Mateo, CA, surrounded by family. He was survived by his wife, Irma, three daughters, Sue Nix, Laura Camilleri (Eddie), and Christina Tempone; four grandchildren, Marc Nix, Becky Peterson (RJ), Cassandra Holman (Ryan), and Nicholas Camilleri; a two-year-old great-granddaughter, Finley Holman; and his brother Bill (Juanita).

Ed's life & friendships will be honored in a celebration of life when gatherings are possible again.

Ed, we miss seeing you every day out on our street tending to your many cool cars. And what a sweet guy taking in all the neighbors' garbages each Friday after the pick up. You gave a helping hand whenever needed, loved chatting and always had a smile. Our street is empty without you.

Ed was the first person we met when we also moved from South San Francisco to Laurelwood. It was a small world to find out we knew Ed’s brother, Bill and Juanita and family. We also share Ed’s love of cars. We were very saddened to hear of his loss. We Will miss his smiles and waves as he would drive by in any one of his many beautiful cars! With our sincerest condolences to all of the Tempone family. May you cherish your many memories of his wonderful life. Gary and Cheryl and Barrango and family

Ed became a good friend when we went to Paul Revere School in the 40's and was gracious every time we bumped into each other at Balboa, the Navy Reserve and 50th Bal Class Reunion. I believe he is in the front row of our 1944 class picture, 3rd from right.
I was a photographer for the Buccaneer and Galleon 54' and 55'.

My fondest memory I have of Mr. Tempone was when he took me to the Mercy High School Father/Daughter dance with his daughter, Laura. It meant so much to my mother and me. It's a memory we've held in our hearts over the years. We'll always remember him as a genuinely beautiful person. Love you and miss you Mr. Tempone

This is a picture of Eddie and his girlfriend down the street, Karina. Karina is our 2 year old daughter who loved, I mean LOVED, seeing Eddie. Sometimes that's how we bribed her to go outside, because maybe Eddie was out there, to which she'd respond, "Ok! Let's go see Eddie!" Eddie would hold her hand as she dragged him all over his yard to show him his own yard decor and he would even fetch an apple from his tree so she could have a snack. And he always said goodbye to her with a hug. Eddie will be missed by our whole family and I'm especially sad that Karina didn't get more time with her favorite kindhearted neighbor. What a loss for the neighborhood; I can't imagine the loss to family and close friends. Sending you all my deepest sympathies.

I loved the impromptu meetings and conversations with Ed at La Tartine where I could hear about his latest car adventures. Not surprising he would always encourage me to bring my 65 Mustang out and join him at a show. Your warm smile and sincere friendship will be missed.

As his neighbor for 45 years he is unforgettable. He was a friend, dog lover, fixer of break downs like sprinklers, car repairer, overall man with many talents.
Not seeing him on his driveway watching over all of our neighbors is a tremendous loss.
You were loved and respected by people on Crestwood Court.
