Barbara Serimian Obituary

Barbara Honem Serimian was born in San Francisco, California on March 24, 1934 to John and Lucy Babayan. She graduated from Balboa High School in San Francisco, continuing on to UC Berkley where she received her bachelor's degree in English with a minor in Spanish. After college, she taught English for several years in Riverside, California. In 1960, she married Donald Serimian, moving to Selma, California. Soon after, they had two sons, David Serimian and Marlon Serimian. Barbara was always a creative spirit. She loved her garden and painted watercolors for many decades. Barbara knit for many years and had her own inimitable style creating garments under her design name: B. Honem. Barbara loved entertaining in her home, both for family and friends, and was an exceptional cook. Barbara enjoyed everything artistic, from art museums to culture, dance and music, and she introduced her sons to many of these experiences throughout her life.

Barbara was always an independent spirit and spent many weekends exploring San Francisco with her sons. She thought it was important to expose her boys to the arts and cultures of the world. Barbara enjoyed many Big Game Stanford/Berkley football game weekends with her husband and their friends.

Barbara is survived by her sons, David and Marlon. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, William Serimian and Chloe Serimian, whom she loved spending time with and adored. A special thanks to Barbara's care providers during the last years of her life: Rosa Orosco, Jazmine Ruelas, and Kendra Gomez. The family is grateful for their devotion and care of Barbara.

A funeral service will be held at St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church, 220 E. Fresno Street, Fowler, California, on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Following the church ceremony there will be a Graveside Ceremony at Mendocino Cemetery, 7932 S. Mendocino Avenue, Parlier, California. In lieu of flowers, all remembrances may be made to St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church; or the donor's favorite charity.

Dolores Davidian

December 29, 2025

I, Dolores Boghosian Davidian, was a former classmate of both Donald and Lionel Serimian. We had common ties of being children of farmers in the Selma, CA community and also were bonded because of our ethnicity as Armenians. The Serimian brothers were extremely lavish in pouring out unconditional love to their fellow man. I reflect on our amazing times together at Selma High School in academics and sports interests. I regret that I did not continue our teenage friendship as we entered into the world of adulthood. We did connect at a Selma High all school reunion where I met Barbara. Sadly, most of our classmates have passed on and reside at their eternal home in Heaven with Jesus. At age 96 I soon will be joining my family and beloved friends one day. "BELIEVE IN THE LORD JESUS CHRIST & YOU WILL BE SAVED."
