DONALD SERIMIAN Obituary

Donald Martin Serimian was born in Selma, CA on April 12, 1930, to Martin and Agnes Serimian. Donald was the eldest of two sons. From the beginning, Donald excelled in academics and sports. He was Student Body President at Selma High School, and selected as valedictorian of the 1948 graduating class. After high school, Donald attended Stanford University where he earned an undergraduate degree in economics. He continued at Stanford, studying law, earning his juris doctor degree in 1952. After leaving Stanford, he fulfilled his military duties serving two years at Fort Benning, GA. While in the military, Donald became a member of the Masonic Lodge of Fort Benning, GA and maintained his membership throughout his life. Upon discharge, Donald returned to Selma, CA, joining his father in the family farming business. Soon after, his brother Lionel returned home, and the two brothers partnered into the family farming business spanning fifty years. Donald married his sweetheart, Barbara Babayan, on December 28, 1960, at the Stanford Memorial Church in Palo Alto, CA. Together, they had two sons, David Martin in 1961, and Marlon Donald in 1965. Donald was a very dedicated husband, father, and grandfather during his entire life. Donald loved his work. He and his brother grew the family business into premier supplier of nectarines and table grapes. They were extremely proud the patented Red Lion variety of nectarine, which they developed. Their nectarines were recognized throughout the tree fruit industry. Donald was also actively involved in the local community. He was a founding director of Growers and Merchants State Bank established in 1978. Industry organizations that Donald actively participated in included, California Tree Fruit Agreement; Nisei Farmers League; Allied Grape Grower; and Selma Economic Development Authority. Donald truly enjoyed his involvement in the business world and the relationships that developed from it. Donald was an avid Stanford University Football fan, and loved the trips he took with Barbara, and their friends to the games. Donald is survived by his wife Barbara; his sons, David, and Marlon; his daughter-in-law Hannah; and his grandchildren, Emily, William, and Chloe. My sincere sympathy to the Serimian Family on the loss of Don. I have known the Serimian Family all my life, having grown up on McCall across the street from Don's grandmother. She and my mother were always running back and forth across McCall with something to share, fruit, food, conversation. I always remember Agnes on special occasions and thought what a beautiful and classy lady. Don and Lionel I admired for their academic achievements and success in life. May your cherished memories give you peace and comfort at this difficult time. Sincerely, Paulette Janian Melkonian

I knew Don for many years. After retiring from bpBank of America I went to work for him on a part times basis. He was a great boss and had a big heart. He will be missed by many. God bless the family during their loss and give them peace.

It was an honor to know Don, he loved being a husband and father and he was a loyal friend to so many people. He treated me like a son and it was my good fortune to call him my friend.
