Zak was my friend. Ornery, cantankerous, irascible & stubborn, but also generous and loyal. He was an extraordinary advertising photographer working in San Francisco at a time when that business was amazing. I worked for Zak on and off as a photo assistant from 1973 through 1978 and it was a real education! I thought I knew about photography until I met Zak! His studio in an old firehouse on Tehama was like an Aladdin's cave of Americana, not to mention the Porsche Speedsters, and to a kid from England it was truly eye opening! I'll miss you Zak.

Ed could be described as many things: eccentric, schrewd, creative and so much more - but he was a thoughtful and generous man to many who knew him - myself included. The City has lost another of its most interesting characters, and I'll miss him.If you knew Ed, you know there's not another man on the planet like Ed. Additionally, his photography was always fresh and beautiful - he was a master in every sense.
