September 28, 1933 - November 18, 2022
Dr. Effie Chow, Ph.D., RN, LAc, a trailblazing advocate for the integration of East and West and an influential member of the White House Presidential Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy, has passed away at the age of 89.
Effie was known for her heart-to-heart hugs, belly-aching laughs, and her attention to every detail. She was more than a healer in a clinical sense but a healer of souls, always looking beyond the physical to the emotional and spiritual needs of those she encountered. Dr. Chow was also the founder of East West Academy of Healing Arts in San Francisco, established in 1973, a bastion of education, clinical practice, and policy in the field of acupuncture, qigong, and energy medicine. The Chow Integrated Healing System (CIHS) is her enduring legacy.
Effie Chow is survived by her loving family and friends, numerous clients/students, and a global community of admirers. Her life's work and legacy will be honored with the 23rd World Congress on Integrative Health: Healing with Peace September 30-October 2nd in Oakland.

I have wonderful memories of Dr. Effie Chow. She was an highly engaged and powerful woman. I studied with her Qigong and her Integrate Chow Qigong Healing System in Vancouver, in the '90s. I had the chance to assist her some times in her clinic. She was strong, assertive and influential. She was a true healer, and she inspired me for all my life. I have shared her legagy to students in my home place in Québec, and will still soon share the precious transmission I have from her to people here this spring. She is alive in all her students, clients, family and friends remembering her true mastery, ease of communication and great simplicity. Peace and light covers the path she walked.
