Elisabeth Levy Obituary

Elisabeth Levy
August 3, 1927 – January 13, 2022
Elisabeth was a loving and caring wife, stepmother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt with a passion for writing, travel and philanthropy.

Elisabeth was born and raised in Kloten, Switzerland, a small village near Zurich. She had four siblings: three older sisters, Lily, Margret, Erika and a younger brother, Heinz.

After receiving her nursing degree in 1950, Elisabeth left Zurich to spend a year in England, and then spent five years as a nurse for a dermatologist in Switzerland.

In 1958, Elisabeth moved to the United States. After several nursing jobs in Oregon and Texas, she settled in San Francisco. She was hired by Dr. S. William Levy as a nurse and office manager of his dermatology practice. They married in 1974. Elisabeth enjoyed working in Dr. Levy's office assisting him with procedures and caring for his patients.

Elisabeth's pride and joy were her grandchildren. On her days off she cared for them at her home in Kentfield. Together they baked, gardened, hiked, swam and enjoyed many other activities.

Elisabeth loved to travel. She and Dr. Levy traveled throughout the world, visiting cities in Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America and Australia. After Dr. Levy's death 16 years ago, she travelled by herself to the seventh continent, Antarctica. Her fondest memories were when she and her late husband took the family to Switzerland. She also took her grandchildren to Africa, not only to tour, but to personally deliver wheelchairs to disabled children in need.

She was a founding member of the Varenna Writer's Group in Santa Rosa where she was recently honored. She was the proud author of five books of stories and a memoir.

Elisabeth is survived by her stepchildren David Levy (Rita), Ann Rhoads (Jeffrey), grandchildren Rebecca Jennifer Levy (Justin Beere), David William Rhoads (Amy), Matthew Tobias Levy (Samantha), and Alexa Miriam Rhoads (Evan Meagher), and great grandchildren William Levy Beere, Ada Rhoads Meagher, Elliott Levy Beere, Nora Skye Levy, and Owen Jacob Rhoads.

From that chance meeting on a Qantas flight 37 years ago, you (and Bill) wove your magic into our lives through our many phone calls, letters and occasional visits across the Pacific.
You created special memories at Kentfield and at Varenna and introduced your "Aussie adopted daughter" to your family and friends with pride and grace.
"Carry on Mom!"
Your love and friendship will never be forgotten
