Elthello Smith Obituary

Elthello "Pello" Smith
08/04/1942 - 06/13/2025
Elthello Smith, lovingly known as "Pello," entrepreneur, businessman, and financial consultant, born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 4, 1942 to the union of A.J. Smith, Sr. and Lucinda Brown Smith, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on June 13, 2025 in Walnut Creek, California.
Pello graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa in the class of 1960 and from Los Angeles City College with his AA Degree in Business Administration in 1963. The same year, Pello married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Beverly Diane Worley. To this union three children were born, Cliffton, Darren, and Alexa. Pello and family united with Third Baptist Church in San Francisco in 1976.
Pello was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Cliffton and Darren, and eight siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 62 years, Beverly Diane Worley Smith; his daughter Alexa J. Smith; brothers Wendell Leo (Renee) Smith and A.J. (Janice) Smith II; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Pello will be remembered for his gregarious nature and service to the community. He was an example of courage, optimism and strength, a one in a million man.

I am saddened to read about Pello's passing in June. My Wife, Yolanda, and I became good friends with Pello and Beverly at Third Baptist Church, where I served as assistant pastor from 1987-1990. Pello served as a deacon of the church for nearly 50 years. He was a serious Christian, a caring friend, outgoing and friendly with a great sense of humor, proud of his Tulsa, Oklahoma roots. Our prayers are with Beverly, Alexa and all of his family and friends who grieve his loss and celebrate his life.

Words cannot describe the loss of Papa Smith. Far back as I can remember, he was there. I'll always remember his kind heart, wonderful laughter, and the smell of his pipe as you walked into the house. Papa, you're gone, but will never be forgotten.
