Emilio Gobbo Obituary

Emilio Roberto Gobbo Jul. 7, 1927 - Dec. 27, 2010 Emilio "Bob" Gobbo died peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a courageous decade-long battle with cancer. Bob was born in the coast side town of Porto Albona, Italy to parents Antonio Gobbo and Lucia Tominovic, the youngest of seven siblings. After surviving the war and forced to flee his hometown as a refugee, he immigrated to the United States in 1948. Bob settled in San Francisco and met the love of his life, Joan Tognotti, during the broom dance at Fugazi Hall, North Beach in 1953. They were married at Saints Peter and Paul Church on June 19, 1954. Bob worked in the restaurant business as a chef, most notably at Fior D' Italia, Green Valley (co-owner), and the Cliff House. Bob was a devoted family man who attended mass faithfully at Church of the Epiphany. He volunteered his time as a CYO youth soccer coach, member of the YMI, #613, and lent his culinary skills to many charity events. He loved the sea, golfing, fishing, woodworking, waltz and polka dancing. He was a devoted fan of the world champion SF Giants, SF 49er's and Italy's Azure. Bob possessed a deep wisdom and calm inner warmth that drew many friends to him. He was kind, patient, loving, jovial and brave. He is survived by Joan, his devoted wife of 56 years, and their children, Robert Gobbo and Lisa McCormick, daughter-in-law Julie Raefield-Gobbo, and son-in-law, James McCormick. Beloved Nonno to Madeline and Elizabeth Gobbo, Kristen and Jenna McCormick. He is also survived by many loving relatives in Italy. Family and friends are invited to Saints Peter and Paul Church, San Francisco where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday Dec. 30, at 10:00 am, committal services at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Salesian Boys' and Girls' Club, 680 Filbert St., San Francisco, 94133, or to a charity of your choice.
