Emily Libarle Obituary

Emily Libarle (Benedetti) January 4, 1914 - December 23, 2008 Died peacefully in her sleep at home. Born Emilia Maria Benedetti in San Francisco's North Beach to Pia and Giocondo Benedetti of Convalle (Lucca), Italy on Jan. 4, 1914. Preceded by her husband and best friend of 59 years, Lucien "Red" Libarle (deceased 1998) and brothers Dante and Gene Benedetti. Loving mother of Denise McCarthy (Tom) of San Francisco, Dan Libarle (Carol Ann) of Petaluma, Marc Libarle, and Jeff Libarle (Janet) of Cotati. Adored grandmother "Dee-Dee" of Pia Hinckle-Mittelstaedt (Chris), Nicole Marzo (Richard), Hilary Hinckle-Cane (Peter), Phoebe Ellis (Geoff), Andre Libarle, Mikkel Libarle, Harry Libarle, and Paige Libarle-Labourdette; and great-grand-mother to Lucien, Fiona, and Simone Mittelstaedt; Daniel, Peter, and George Marzo; Max and Ava Cane; and Whitaker, Lucienne, and Henry Ellis. "Millie" will also be missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and many friends. Millie attended Petaluma High School and Santa Rosa Junior College. She was a graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing in San Francisco (1935) and was an R.N. and open heart surgical nurse. Known for wearing her trademark rose, Millie served on the boards of many Sonoma County organizations including the Santa Rosa Symphony, St. Anthony's Farm Women's Auxiliary, Luther Burbank Performing Arts Center, Petaluma Community Guild, Sonoma-Marin Fair, Hillcrest Hospital Foundation and was the Sonoma County Grand Jury vice-chair in the early 1980s. The family thanks her longtime caregivers Reina Hollingsworth and Rosa Sunes. Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sonoma-Marin Fair, Santa Rosa Symphony, Petaluma Community Guild, or Hospice of Petaluma.
