Eric Johnson Obituary

Eric Robert Johnson After a courageous year-long battle with melanoma, Eric passed away February 24, 2011 at home with his beloved family by his side: his wife of 39 years, Randy Elaine, and his adult children, Stephanie and Sean. Eric was born Oct. 22, 1947 in Glendale, Ca. to Eric and Roberta Johnson (Eyerman). While attending junior college, Eric worked for rock station KRLA taking song requests for Casey Kasem, Bob Eubanks, and Thom Beck. He met many of the rock stars of the late '60's: he loved those memories. Eric was in the Navy from 1966-68 aboard the USS Mathews, touring southeast Asia. Upon his return he met Randy Elaine. They married in 1972. Eric received his BS in industrial technology from CSU Long Beach and they moved to the Bay Area. Eric's carreer in electrical sales began in 1974 at Square D (field engineer). He went on to work for Westinghouse (field engineer), Phillips and Ober (VP sales), Lightco (VP co-owner), Wesco (branch manager), and Westgate (sales manager). Eric co-founded San Francisco switchgear in 1996. He was sole owner from2002 until his death. His customers became his friends. Eric and Family have been Berkeley residents for 34 years. He is also survived by Randy's 7 brothers and sisters and their families; his brother Brian and family; and by Randy's aunt and uncle, Barbara and Edward (Bud) Mendenhall, who were very supportive of Eric during his illness. No memorial service was held at Eric's request; a celebration of his life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, a donation to UCSF Melanoma Research would be appreciated. Eric adored life and, most of all, spending time with his wife and children. He would love to be cruising down PCH in his '65 Malibu with his family today. Life was too short. We will miss you Forever and Always, Randy Elaine, Stephanie, and Sean

My memory of Eric will always be the quick wit that always made me laugh. His smile could light up the room. I'm currently reading a book called "Living Life as a Thank You", and it made me think of Eric. I wish I could have thanked him for his humor, his smile, the way he took good care of my sister Randy and his children Steph and Sean. He was a good man by all accounts. To say that he'll be missed is truly an understatement. But I know I will always carry his smile in my heart. Love you Rand, Steph and Sean.

My brother-in-law Eric was one of those guys whom I can say with great conviction that he was a "class act". He loved his wife and children, along with the rest of our large, extended family. There was never any doubt in my mind that this was true about Eric because I saw it time and again over the years. This is one of those moments that I can honestly say that a life truly ended too soon. I will miss him.

All my love to Randy, Stephanie and Sean.
