Erwin Ritz Obituary

Erwin Meyer Ritz April 4, 1918 - July 24, 2007 Erwin Ritz of Walnut Creek passed away peacefully on July 24, 2007. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Rosalie; daughters, Barbara Bray (Tom), Sandra Ritz, Terry Leach (Tim), and Janet Ritz; and five grandchildren, Sara Zimmerman (Rob), Alison Leach and Andrew Bray, and Peter Leach and Katie Leach. Erwin played semi-pro baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers, was on the University of Wisconsin's winning wrestling team and qualified for the Olympics. As chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy, Erwin taught hand-to-hand combat and played golf with fellow sailor Sam Snead. While working at Camp Parks Job Corps, Erwin discovered George Foreman. He and Rosalie supported, fed, and cheered George on through his career. Erwin established his own CPA practice, donating countless hours to non-profit organizations, including TURN, Center for Independent Living and for 13 years, Delancey Street Foundation. Dr. Mimi Silbert, founder/CEO, states, "But for Erwin Ritz, there would be no Delancey Street." Erwin's kindness will never be forgotten. His first greeting each time he would see his wife and daughters was, "Aren't you beautiful!" A dignified and gentle soul, Erwin maintained his positive outlook to the end, assuring everyone he was happy because, "I am still dancing." In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Millman Alzheimer's Respite Program at the Walnut Creek JCC.

a kind and gentle man who gave to his family, friends, and any one in need. My sisters and I were very lucky to have a father who told us we were beautiful and could do anything if we put our minds to it. His love affair with our mom, Rosalie, still continues after almost 61 years together. We love you dad!
