Eugene Clark Obituary

Eugene Emmet Clark

Former CA and NY resident Eugene Emmet Clark, 82, passed away from natural causes on December 9th, 2016 at his home in Tacoma, WA.
Eugene was born July 11th, 1934 in Berkeley, CA and was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Dr. Gene Emmet Clark, his mother Mabel Symmons-Geary, and his sisters Caroline Jones and Patricia Affolder. He is survived by his sister Joyce Arnold and his six children David, Daniel, Michael, Hannah, Naomi, and Sarah. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Eugene served as a Private in the US Army, a Sergeant in the National Guard, a Radio Operator in the Merchant Marines, and a Reserve Officer in the Berkeley Police Department. He is most remembered though, for dedicating his life to his craft as a professional luthier and is still widely renowned as one of the finest guitar makers in the world.
By his wishes, he was cremated and a private memorial ceremony will take place for immediate family only.
Rest in peace Eugene: son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather...and most of all - artist and craftsman.

Please accept my condolences to Eugene Clark's family and to all luthiers and musicians who miss him. I've never met Eugene, though I have heard plenty legend tales through the years, and I am also fortunate to own one of his earliest classical guitars. It's a gem! I play it almost every day. I'll miss hearing stories through the grape vine on what he's up to and what his newest guitars sounds like. It was nice to know the maker of my guitar was still involved with the creative process. He never gave up his love of it.

Best,
Hank
