Eunice Kang Obituary

Eunice Yoon Kang

Nov 10, 1986 - Jan 14, 2019

Eunice Yoon Kang, born on November 10, 1986 in Los Angeles, passed away on January 14, 2019 in San Francisco. She lived in Torrance, CA before moving to San Francisco for college. She majored in Asian American Studies at SF State.
Having lived in New York and Nashville for brief stints, Eunice nevertheless moved back to the Bay. She loved San Francisco and cared about its welfare. She once described the city as "a curvy, unshaven wild woman trying to put on skinny jeans". Eunice enjoyed walking around for hours at a time. Her relationship to the city was, as she'd put it, long-term.
Eunice delighted in the beings she loved. She had a soft-spot for underdogs and misfits and a unique connection with those who had special needs. A popular substitute teacher, she was planning to attend graduate school to become a Special Education teacher. Eunice also loved all dogs, but especially her own, Maggie, a 13.5-year-old beagle.
Recently, Eunice got into taking dips in the icy ocean—she had even acquired two wetsuits, offering one to whoever might join her. She also enjoyed making homemade salves, paintings, collages, air-dried clay objects, and piñatas that looked like her friends. Eunice had always been obsessed with music and showed love to her friends by making them beautiful mixes.
Eunice was also one of the most sympathetic listeners her friends knew. She had an ability to ask a series of disarming questions to anyone—friends, relatives of friends, or strangers she just met—with an artless desire to understand them and hear their stories. With her amazing memory, she would remember to ask her friends for updates on all of their family members, even ones she had never met. Eunice was considered family in many of her friends' families. She made herself comfortable, and we were comfortable around her.
And she knew how to have a good time. At annual friend-family camping trips, she was always one of the last ones to bed and one of the first ones up, and she liked to keep the bonfire going. She did not like boring and sad parties. On one such occasion, Eunice hijacked the speakers and played her own mix so loudly that people walking by on the street would look up. Whenever someone tried to change the music, Eunice would moan and so she and her friends got to listen to the mix from beginning to end.
Eunice was also known for being genuine and honest at all times, almost to a fault. If she was frustrated with you, she might read aloud to you from her journal so she could say exactly what needed being said. She challenged her friends to live more genuinely. And although she was one of the thriftiest people anyone knew, Eunice was also constantly and wholeheartedly generous, giving away even the socks off her feet. "I got you!" she would say with a big smile.
Eunice made an impression everywhere she went and was deeply loved. She was a loving daughter and sister, a cherished friend, and will be missed beyond words.

Hi, my name is Gaby and I worked with Eunice in Torrance. I just found out about the accident and am very sadden about it. She was a beautiful spirit and I enjoyed working with her. She's a person I will never forget and I will always carry her in my heart. If any of her friends and family read this, can I possibly get some information on where she was laid to rest. I'd like to pay my respects. ♥

So sorry to hear about Eunice. My sincere condolences to her family. I remember her most from our college tour in 2004. Of all the schools we visited SFSU was her favorite.
