If ever there was an angel on earth, it was our mother. On May 13, at the age of 100, she passed peacefully at home.
Mom was the daughter of Italian immigrants, Adolfo and Rosa Tosti, who settled in Peckville, Pennsylvania, where mom shared a childhood with her brother, Louis, that she often described as idyllic. In 1943, the family moved to San Francisco where mom met our father, Paul Paraventi, and they were lucky enough to share 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2000.
Throughout her long life, mom retained her cheerful and playful nature and had a great sense of humor. She was a "people person" through and through. She judged no one and accepted everyone. She maintained lifelong friendships and made new ones up until the end.
Mom's varied interests included real estate, following the stock market, and keeping up on current events. She was passionate about the 49ers; loved listening to music of all generations, and dancing. Mom loved the holidays, especially Halloween. She displayed her youthful nature by trick or treating well into her nineties and enjoyed dressing as a witch and handing out candy in her last few years.
Far above all else, our mother loved and cherished her family. She devoted all of herself to us, genuinely interested in each and every aspect of our lives. After retiring, her new career was taking care of her three grandchildren. She was the most loving and caring mother to Janet Paraventi Holt and Judy Paraventi, and to her son-in-law John. She was a doting Nonni to her grandchildren, Johnny (Cortney) Holt, Jenna Jones, and Travis Jones.
Mom is also survived by two great grandchildren, Lucca and Ilaria Holt who called her Gigi; her dear cousin Jean Morucci, many nieces and nephews and Goddaughter Cory. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Louis Tosti.
We will forever be grateful to her dear and devoted friends Linda, Fran and Lani, for loving mom so much and giving her the very best care and companionship.
Mom was also blessed to have lovely neighbors; we thank you for your kindness, conversation and friendship.
Our gratitude also goes to her dedicated doctors Morelli, Charlton, and Nomura, and the wonderful hospice caregivers Laura, Jamal, Christine and Shirley.
As we now are left to navigate without our mother's physical presence, we know that she will forever guide us with her deepest maternal love and care that never wavered.
Friends may visit on Sunday, June 8th, from 5 to 8 pm with a Rosary at 6pm at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 9th, at 10 am at St. Elizabeth Church, 459 Somerset Street, San Francisco. Reception immediately following interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SF-Marin Food Bank (900 Pennsylvania Avenue, SF, CA 94107) or to a charity of your choice.
