Frances Ida (Holm) Beverly
Frances was born April 27, 1919 in San Francisco and passed away August 31, 2015 in the middle of the night. Frances was the second daughter of Elisa Sorensen (Vindum) Holm and Martin Jacob Claus Holm, who emigrated from Denmark in 1913 and settled into the Danish community in San Francisco, on Sanchez and 14th Street. Fran graduated from Lux College in 1939 with a degree in Medical-Dental Assistance as the valedictorian. She worked in her field until 1942 when she traveled to Chile to marry Edward Howard Beverly, a mechanical engineer she met in S.F., who was working for Anaconda Copper Mines high in the Andes.
While living in Chile, she enjoyed camp life at 10,000ft. In 1944, she gave birth to a daughter, Judith Fay Beverly. She returned with her daughter and husband to San Francisco and lived with her parents on Sanchez Street. In 1947, Fran gave birth to her son Edward Howard Beverly Jr. and her father Martin, passed away from a disease that would later be known as Lou Gehrig disease. During those years, she became active in both the Danish Community and her children's activities at the Josephine Randal Museum, Boys Club, DeMolay, Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star.
After her divorce in 1970, she continued to live at Sanchez Str., helped her aging mother and step father Jensen P. Jensen who lived in Millbrae, and started work at the San Francisco Water Department where she stayed till retirement in 1983. She then discovered Elderhostel and thru their program, traveled the world learning about the areas she was in thru the Elderhostel program. She would remark for years how wonderful those travels were.
In 1994, Frances moved into the Sequoias, a Senior Community here in San Francisco, where she lived and flourished for 21 years until her passing. Never a wallflower, she joined committees, sat on boards, helped with galas, put up Christmas decorations, whatever was going on, Fran was part of it. She was a strong supporter of the Sequoias, and would encourage all around her to look into the benefits of a top-notch senior community. She gave credit to her wonderful senior years to the Sequoias and all the great friends she had there.
Surviving her is her daughter Judi Beverly of Vancouver, WA, son Ed Beverly and wife Sheryl, grand daughter Jessica Beverly all of Klamath Falls, Or, grand son Matt Hinshaw of Portland Or., nieces Carolyn Barber and Evelyn Budwig, and numerous cousins in Denmark. A celebration of her life was at the auditorium at the Sequoias. Memorial gifts to Tomorrow Fund Endowment, NCPS.
