Frances M. Shanahan Medeiros died peacefully on Monday August 5th, in San Mateo.

She is predeceased by her husband George Medeiros, and sisters Benardine Norton and June Shanahan.

Frances was the beloved aunt of Marta Cunningham, Mark Norton, Michael Norton and Jeffrey Norton, and the adored great aunt to Katie, Brandon, Calli, Michayla and Keara.

Frances was born in San Francisco at St Francis Hospital, to Benjamin and Mary Shanahan. She attended St. Vincent's Catholic Prep High School, in San Francisco.

Frances began and finished her career, in the Insurance business. She was a loyal, hard working employee of Penn Mutual for 35 years. She became the Managing General Agent for the San Francisco Penn Mutual Agency responsible for Northern California. Frances was the highest female executive in the Insurance Industry, of her time.

Frances greatest achievements have been the effect she had on the lives of her family, friends and work colleagues, at Penn Mutual.

Frances was active in several clubs and organizations. Her favorites were the Soroptimist International Club and PEO. Frances served as the President of the Soroptimist Club, San Francisco Chapter, in 1970. Frances loved to read, volunteer, attend the symphony and adored her cat, Tommy. She was a lifelong devoted 49'er and Giants fan.

Visitation for family and friends will begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 15th at Sneider, Sullivan and O'Connell's 977 South El Camino Real, San Mateo with the vigil to begin at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Friday, August 16th, at Our Lady of Angels, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame, with a reception following.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances's honor may be made to the Hospice Organization.
