Frank Perez Obituary

Frank Joseph Perez

August 26, 1947 - July 24, 2014

On a bright, sunny afternoon in his beloved San Francisco, Frank passed away. He was 66 years old.
Frank grew up in the Excelsior District and graduated from Cleveland Elementary School, Luther Burbank Junior High School and Balboa High School. McLaren Park offered neighborhood kids the joy of climbing trees, hiding in dense foliage playing "Hide and Go Seek", horseback riding at the local stables and a general sense of freedom in the vastness of the park.
Frank's interests went far beyond the boundaries of the neighborhood. He taught himself to play chess as a young boy and carried enjoyment of the game into his adulthood. He participated in Little League Baseball, Field and Track, Golf, Pool and Body Building.
After the passing of his beloved Kathy, twenty years ago, Frank chose to seemingly walk alone in life. His truth was far from that. He was Son to Vincent and Norma, Brother to Tom and Carol, Father to Frank, David and Brigette, Grandfather to Frankie, Sophie, Bella and Anthony, Uncle to Vincent and Paul and Nephew and Cousin to many.
Frank had a 41-year career with the ILWU, Ship Clerks Local 34. He began his career in 1965 and retired in 2006. Upon retirement, he received a plaque from The Pacific Maritime Association - Northern California Area. The plaque states "In recognition of 41 years of service without a lost-time injury".
The Excelsior, The Mission, Potrero Hill and North Beach were specific neighborhoods in the City that Frank held a special bond with. Frank's family would like to thank the varied shop keepers, store owners, bankers, hotel managers, market owners, hospitals, clinics, police officers, firefighters, paramedics and neighborhood residents who assisted Frank throughout the years.
A heartfelt appreciation is extended to the employees of the ILWU-PMA Benefits Office, the members of ILWU, Ship Clerks Local 34 and the staff at Ohlhoff House. Throughout the years, these organizations have never stopped offering their ongoing support, care and assistance.
Frank was a resident at Ohlhoff House until just a few weeks before his passing. Though Frank and the staff worked diligently to help bring peace back into his life, early in July, The Mission called him back.
Frank's three children will be having a private memorial for their Father.

I'm very thankful that I was able to spend some time with him before he left this earth.
He made me laugh. He made me cry.
Why did so much time have to go by.
