Oh, I miss Franklin! He was one of my mentors as a teenager at Cameron House. Always the cheerful, chipper wisecracker, who was always positive and yes, Frank. He loved cooking and sharing his concoctions with hungry teens like us. He was a world traveler, cook, and connoisseur of culture and fine foods. Living in D.C. made him politically savvy, well-informed and astute on world issues. The last couple of times he came to town we failed to connect. Now I'm really sorry there won't be another chance to chew the fat and sample below the radar, cheap and delicious Chinese restaurants with Franklin. May you rest in Chow Heaven, Franklin!

Goodbye my friend. Thank you for introducing me to the civil rights movement and bringing me with you to Cesar Chavez' march to Sacramento in mid 1960s. Hosting visits to DC, cooking for me, so many good meals!

The world has lost an angel. I am blessed to have met Franklin very briefly one October day in DC three years ago, and our encounter touched my life deeply. I wrote about meeting him here: http://happyshackdesigns.blogspot.com/2011/11/angel-has-gone-home.html

Blessings to your family, dear Franklin. And thank you for blessing my life.
