Franzy Hoskins Obituary
Franzy Lea Hoskins (Nee Ritchardson) Born in San Francisco on September 12, 1920, Franzy Lea Hoskins passed away on August 14, 2010, just shy of her 90th birthday. She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Mabel and Franzy Ritchardson, and her husband, Allen Hoskins. She leaves behind her sons, Ernest King, Christopher Hoskins and Michael Hoskins; and her daughters, Thomya Arterberry and Candy Hoskins. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as her many friends, both young and old. Franzy graduated from Girls High School in San Francisco and attended San Francisco State University. Most of Franzy's career was devoted to working with special needs and troubled youth. For many years, she was a counselor, working with girls at the Los Guilicos Juvenile Center outside of Santa Rosa (where she was known as "Momma Dimples"). She ended her career as a Special Education Teaching Assistant in the Hayward Unified Schools. Even in retirement, Franzy continued to work with youths as a volunteer counselor with the organization, Women In Community Service. Franzy was one of a kind. She was proud to have been born in San Francisco, and lived as a true San Francisco "lady"--always with a kind word to say to and about everyone she met. Her family and friends meant everything to her. She loved a good party and had an adventurous spirit--ready to try a new experience or to travel at a moment's notice. She was smart, funny, caring, strong, encouraging, empathetic and cared passionately about human rights and dignity. She endeared herself to anyone who knew her by taking the time to listen to who they were--not just what they did. She found beauty and interest in things that most of us rush by every day; and it was her caring nature and her insatiable curiosity that kept her young. She passed her generous spirit, awareness for social causes and creative nature on to her family and friends who love her and will miss her dearly. A private memorial will be held by her family.
