Fred Bertetta Obituary

Fred C. Bertetta III
December 25, 1964 - August 1, 2023
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Fred C. Bertetta III, beloved husband of Jennifer Bertetta. He was 58.
Fred was born on Christmas Day in 1964 to parents Fred Jr. and Bonnie Bertetta. He graduated from Serra High School in San Mateo, CA in 1983 and continued his education at University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA graduating in 1987. He went to work for his father Fred Jr. at Olympian Oil Company after college. After Olympian Oil, Fred taught 4th grade at St. Pius school in Redwood City because he cared deeply and passionately about kids and the future of our world. He adored his students and they adored him. Fred returned to Olympian Gulf Properties (after sale of Olympian Oil) as President & CEO where he worked until his death.
He was a devoted husband to Jennifer & devoted father to his three beautiful boys and loved nothing more than spending quality time with all of them. Our dear Fred will be remembered for his impressive intellect, larger than life personality, rapier wit, musical talents, political savviness, genuine selflessness, love of teaching and love of his spoiled dogs Annie, Barkley & Henry. Fred was an avid Raiders & USC Trojans football fan. Fred left an impact on every person he met. As an independent thinker, he loved to challenge and expand people's thinking. He was unforgettable and had the absolute best smile & laugh. Fred loved spending weekends away at the Bertetta family beach house in Santa Cruz, walking his dogs on the beach and always bringing his guitar to share his love of music with his young boys.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer, their three sons Freddie IV, Spencer and Hunter; mother, Bonnie Bertetta; sister Laura (Bertetta) Celeste; brother-in-law Mike Celeste; children Isabella and Luca Celeste; brother-in-law Mark Silva (Rocky). He was preceded in death by his brother Brad (Rocky) Bertetta and father Fred Bertetta Jr. and he will be sorely missed by so many friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 1721 Hillside Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010. Reception to follow. Mass will be presided by our dearly loved Father Michael Mahoney.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Serra High School in loving memory of our dear Fred.

I remember discussions with Freddie and my associate Robert Katz on our trips to California. I and all of us at Cerity Boston am wishing strength to Bonnie and Jennifer and her 3 sons during the grieving process and thereafter. We have made a contribution to Serra in Freddie's name as he would have wanted that.
With support and affection,

We are so heartbroken yo hear this. We met Fred as a favorite teacher at St Pius, described as a bright light in their education as they tried daily to be in his "Shamrock Club"

Friendly bets were made over Michigan USC games, and Fred won in the long run as one of his students followed him to USC.

So much love and prayers to the Bertetta Family.
