Gary Gray Obituary
November 21, 1932 -- August 29, 2016
Longtime resident of San Francisco, died August 29, 2016, in Palm Springs, CA. Born November 21, 1932, to Blanche and William Gray in Springfield, MO. Graduated from High School 1951 in Moberly, MO. He was a graduate of Central College (CMU), Fayette, MO; and the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY.Mr. Gray served for six years in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Naples, Italy, as a flutist with the NATO Band and Orchestra; also stationed at the U.S. Naval Academy with the Academy Band and Orchestra in Annapolis, MD. He joined the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra in 1967 and played with the Symphony until his retirement in 1989. He is a member of the Symphony's Pierre Monteux Society.
Mr. Gray lived for a time in Pahrump, NV, and moved to Palm Springs, CA, in 2000. He was predeceased by his husband Todd C. Gardner.
No services. Mr. Gray was a Life Member of the Freedom from Religion Foundation of Madison, WI. Memorial gifts may be made to the San Francisco Symphony. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Let's party! For more information email [email protected].

Our condolences to the Gray Family. Gary was a great man whom I knew from childhood as he and my Pop played together in the SF Symphony. He was a good friend and an accomplished player.
