I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Mr. Crowe during a reading of "The American" . He was a great guy .

Some time ago Chicago's Aspect Theatre presented a staged reading of George's play, "The American," adapted from Howard Fast's somewhat fictitious bio of Illinois governor John Peter Altgeld. George came to see it, and a dearer, kinder person one is very unlikely ever to meet. His focus on Chicago history was a fascinating side of his many interests, and I have always regretted not being able to convince a Chicago theatre to produce one of his plays.

With his amazing talents he was still a humble man. He was a pleasure to be around. And always fun. Reading one of his plays together, eating too much at an Italian restaurant in Occidental and, well, just talking. Both he and Ann will remain in our hearts.
