George Demakas Obituary

George Peter Demakas
09/04/1957 - 09/10/2025
Beloved son, brother, father, grandfather (Papou), uncle, and friend. He was an avid reader of books, and a journeyman electrician for over 40 years. George Demakas, age 68, of Sebastopol, CA, passed away from advanced gastric cancer on Wednesday, September, 10th.
He was born in San Francisco in 1957 to Nick and Vicki Demakas. His sister Gail was born six years later and they moved to the Westlake District in Daly City, where he grew up and went to school. His parents taught him the value of making a dollar go a long way but to always be generous with those he loved. After having their first child, Nicholas, George and his then-wife Judy decided to move north to Sebastopol to raise their family on an idyllic 2+ acre ranch - their own little paradise.
He is survived by his children, Nicholas (Rae) and Andrea (Simon), his grandchildren Maya, Charles, Arlo and Lukas, and his nephews, Parker and Cali. Though he loved camping, tinkering in his garage, fixing things for his friends, and reading, George's favorite role was that of a grandfather. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Papou, always baking cookies, taking them on rides in the pink jeep, and looking forward to their weekly visits to watch them grow and change.
He enjoyed spending time with family, close friends, and his partner, Lee, at Donner Lake, Lake New Hogan, and Lake Tahoe, preferring to be outdoors with his loved ones to planning big trips overseas. He will forever be remembered for constantly carrying a new book with him or quietly reading in the background during trips or gatherings. Every fall he enjoyed making homemade apple sauce, dried apple rings, and plum jam from his fruit trees, saving them as Christmas gifts for his family and close friends.
Everyone who knew George knew how deeply he loved, how reliable he was, and how much he enjoyed the simple things in life like a good piece of dry jack cheese.
We couldn't have asked for a better parent and grandparent. He was also the best big brother and uncle. He was a steadfast, kindhearted, undemanding, and loving man who will be missed by many every single day.
George's Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 11:30 am at HopMonk in Sebastopol (230 Petaluma Ave, Sebastopol, CA 95472). In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate you sharing any specific memories, stories, or a note to them at [email protected]. Also, please feel free to donate to your favorite charity in George's name.

I grew up on Parkwood Drive in Westlake with Geordie. We were only 4 years old and we played on our block, just waiting for the "big kids" to get home from school.
Geordie was in most of my classes at Westlake School and we´d walk to school together, holding hands when we crossed John Daly Blvd.
I´m so glad I have so many memories from the 1960´s with my very first friend, Geordie Demakas.
I will think of him often
