George Ferreboeuf Obituary

George Ferreboeuf

George left peacefully on Monday, July 28 at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years Laurette, his wife of 27 years Vittoria, his son Paul, and his son Stephen. He is survived by his children John (Debra), Marie (David), Michael (Colleen) and Judy (David). and his stepdaughter, Maria (Kent); His grandchildren Adrienne, Marielle, Phineas, Emile, Finegan, Ben and five great-grandchildren.
George was a first generation native San Franciscan. He attended Sacred Heart and Lick Wilmerding high schools. He attended the College of Pacific where he played football for the legendary coach Amos Alonzo Stagg. He served as a Marine Corps Officer in the Pacific Theater in WWII and in the Korean conflict.
For most of his career George worked in the emergent field of commercial prefabricated metal buildings. He worked initially for Soule Steel and later became an independent broker for both sales and construction of steel buildings.
George enjoyed both bowling and golf. For many years he held the high three-game series record at the then Marina Bowl, and had his first hole-in-one at the age of eighty.
He was a member of many French social clubs, including Les Faneurs, La Gauloise, Ligue Henri IV and the French Athletic Club. He also enjoyed the company of fellow epicures as a member of B.A.D.D. (Bay Area Drinkers and Diners).
George had a positive and enthusiastic love for life which he imparted to all those he met throughout it. To the end he exhibited grace and humor. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Aug. 6th from 6 to 8 PM and the Funeral Service on Aug. 7th at 10:30 AM at McAvoy O'Hara Co., Geary Blvd. at Tenth Avenue, SF.
We wish to extend our appreciation to Daisy Dizon and the Vintage Golden Gate staff for their loving care for George.

Memories and Condolences
for George Ferreboeuf

Not sure what to say?

John, Marie, Mike, and Judy. Condolences on your loss. George was a good man, a neat guy. Whether discussing politics, sports, or current events he certainly pushed one to think "out of the box". 1973, The "Rumble in the Jungle", Ali v Frazier, was one of the most politically charged sporting events of my generation. 600PM, the old El Rey theater on Ocean Av, filled to capacity. All African Americans wildly rooting for either Frazier or Ali, save three Caucasians. Those three were George, Paul, and me (all rooting for Ali). It was the most memorable sporting event I ever attended. George was right at home. A great guy. A Man for All Seasons. May he rest in Peace. Sincerely, Joe Moriarty

George was the most wonderful warm man -- he made me and my family feel like a part of his family always, and reading all of these notes it's clear he made everyone feel like that -- what a rare lovely thing that is. Much love to his family.

George was truly one of the "good guys." A real believer and practitioner of living life to the fullest. His house was always open to all comers who were greeted with warmth and involvement. I remember so many times sitting around the kitchen table in the Ferreboeuf house discussing (OK, arguing) in a fun, often very spirited, but always respectful way, about sports, politics, lifestyles, or some other issue de jour. George and his wife taught their children to be free thinkers, to challenge the conventional thinking, to not follow the crowd, to follow their own dreams or persuasions. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy through them. George also stood directly behind and with his children, no matter what the issue was, or how hard it was to endure. People do come and go in all of our lives, but I will always remember and admire George Ferreboeuf, a great father, a man who would always treat anyone like a friend, a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

Kristy and Bill Miller send all the Ferreboeuf family our best. It was wonderful to hear stories about George from Mike and Colleen...and we are sorry a long-time San Franciscan is gone.

I have so many great memories of the time I spent at the house on 14th Avenue and on vacation with the family in Tahoe, with George teasing me as if I were one of his own. He was a wonderful father and true San Franciscan - and will be very missed!

To the Ferreboeuf family:

Please accept our warm wishes for comfort, remembrance, love, and respect for George, an amazing and life-loving man. Residing in New York, we did not get to spend a lot of time with George, but when we could, we were filled with the spirit, energy, and boisterous good-nature that George brought to life and relationships.

And we thank George for another extraordinary gift: Michael Ferreboeuf, who married our good friend Colleen, and as a superb educator, host, and friend, has made this a better world.

Rest in peace, George.

To John Ferreboeuf and the whole Ferreboeuf family, my deepest sympathy on the loss of George. I appreciated him in his later years through the various French Clubs (La Gauloise, Les Faneurs, Ligue Henri IV and the French Athletic Club). We always enjoyed his attending the various affairs and listening to Vittoria sing in Italian. Again on behalf of all our members our sincere condolences.

Our condolences to Marie, Judy, John & Michael. Your Dad was truly a wonderful man!
I still hold in my heart many fond childhood memories from all those years ago when our parents were good friends on 14th&Judah, 16th&Irving.
Some 30 years later my husband and I so enjoyed sitting with your Dad while he watched Paul coach against our son 's high school basketball team. We fondly recall the "calm demeanor" both George & Paul exhibited whenever a questionable call occurred. They so added to the enjoyment of the game for us.
We send many prayers and thoughts to all of you during this difficult time. George was one of the greats of The Greatest Generation!

George was one of the nicest people I've ever in my life. His passing leaves me with great childhood memories of 14th Avenue, family get-togethers, my first ride in a '64 Mustang, allowing me to drive his new Mercedes (as the limo) for my brother's wedding and the master at engaging spirited debates, are just a few that come to mind. Throughout life, George was a man to emulate for his integrity and love for his family and friends. Mr. Ferreboeuf was the personification of first class!
