Harry Oliver Obituary

Harry Gordon Oliver II
May 25, 1944 - March 18, 2021
Harry Gordon Oliver II passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 18, 2021. His wife of 49 years, Diana, was by his side. He was born on May 25th, 1944 in Yuba City, California to Ruth and Fred Oliver. He was a proud Eagle Scout and attended Yuba City High where he played basketball all four years as a Yuba City Honker. He attended his first year of college at Oregon State and later transferred to San Jose State where he graduated with a BS in Economics and Political Science. He met many of his lifelong friends at Theta Chi Fraternity at SJSU. Out of college, he joined the Army, serving one tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon returning to the states, he moved to San Francisco where he met the love of his life, Diana, whom he lovingly called Peabody, for her tiny stature. They went on to have two children who adored him, as well as many pets. Gordon earned his masters and later a law degree from the San Francisco Law School. He also taught classes at Golden Gate University, and wrote a book called "How to Avoid the Hidden Costs of Doing Business in California." He worked as a CPA and estate planner up until very recently and absolutely loved his work, reading and attending courses, and writing numerous published articles on what he considered to be the very exciting world of taxation.
Gordon was a kind-hearted, quirky, fun, generous, loyal, smart, hard-working husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and friends deeply and was known as a favorite uncle, cousin, friend, coworker, and mentor. Outside of his family and friends, he also loved fishing, going to the movies, the color red, the California poppy, the Beatles, the San Francisco 49ers, the Golden State Warriors, Stanford Football, and had many very specific food cravings including iced cold milk, peaches and cottage cheese, and popcorn to name a few.
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Fred, and his grandparents, Lily and his namesake Harry Gordon Oliver I. He leaves behind his wife, Diana Jane Oliver as well as his daughters, Dara Oliver, and Tammy Oliver, his grandchildren, Olive Sullivan and Finn Gallagher, his son in law, Aaron Gallagher, his brother and sister in law, Terry and Angie Luke, and his beloved little red poodle, Ginger (even though he didn't like poodles).
We will hold a celebration of his life in the future when it feels safer for us to gather and reminisce. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.

I met Harry and Diane at the Tower Market where I worked in the 70s. The Olivers were customers of Tower Market. At that time Diane came in with two gorgeous little daughters. I always admired Harry as he was such a gentleman and a cool looking guy with a beautiful kind and polite cheery wife. By shear lucky Gordon's wife Diane (aka DeDe cut my hair on West Portal and we became great pals. I watched the daughters grow up and Gordon would usually call on the phone or come in to let DeDe know the daughters were Ok and her little dogs that she also loved were in good hands. I will miss Gordon as he was truly an asset to the world and a great family guy. He always had a smile and lots of respect when I would see him. He left behind two beautiful and smart daughters and a lovely wife. RIP Gordon.

Gordo was a great fraternity brother and a die-hard 49er fan.

My condolences to the Oliver family. Mr. Oliver was my moms trust attorney for a number of years. He was very helpful and kind to her.
