Harvey Samson Obituary
07/19/1933 - 09/04/2025
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we mark the peaceful passing of Harvey Samson, 92, a Native Californian and longtime resident of San Francisco.
He was generous, adventurous, and found joy in simple moments and close relationships. His gentle nature uplifted those around him. Curious and passionate about animals, airplanes, fishing, travel, history, horse racing, reading, storytelling, jokes, music, art, science, food, and how things work, he ignored barriers and resolved to explore beyond them.
Born in Turlock, CA to Victor E and Patricia Mae Samson, he was raised by his father and aunts after early difficulties. Harvey graduated from Sonoma Valley High School, attended Napa College, and served as a flight instructor in the Air Force during the Korean War. He spent 42 years as an aircraft machinist with United Airlines. Retirement saw him devoted to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He became acquainted with his wife, Mitzi, as a result of an incorrectly dialed phone call. They enjoyed dancing, celebrating family and traveling. Their partnership spanned 67 years of mutual affection and support.
He encouraged his children to be curious, creative, and follow their passions. A natural storyteller and adventurer, he valued both formal education and life lessons like exploration, perseverance, humor, and resilience.
Family and friends remember him as cheerful, kind, and playful, especially with children. Nicknamed "Dog Boy" for his innate rapport with dogs, he loved all animals. An avid horseman, he even competed in rodeos as a youth. His life shows that greatness lies in compassion, strength is rooted in humility, and a legacy depends on positive impact.
He is survived by his wife, Maritza "Mitzi" Samson; children: Victoria Samson Templeton, Bruce Samson, Deborah Samson, and Harvey Patrick Samson; grandchildren: Valerie, Heidi, Mia, and Kira Samson; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
On September 25, 2025, a private Service will be held at Golden Gate National Cemetery with a livestream link available at www.duggans-serra.com.
Memorial Donations can be made to California Fire Foundation, Gary Sinise Foundation or ASPCA.
