Helen Manning Obituary

Helen Popovich Manning Passed away peacefully in God's care on March 11, 2008, at the age of 78, after a long and gallant struggle with cancer. Her sister Diana was with her at her time of passing. Helen was born in Globe, AZ, to Savo and Mildred Popovich. They soon moved to Sutter Creek, CA, where she and her seven brothers and sisters were raised and attended school. She will be deeply missed by Diana, Sam, Marie, Daniel, John, and Milo and families. Brother George preceded her to Heaven in 1974. Helen was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Thomas J. Manning Jr. with whom a loving and long marriage of 40 years was shared in the city of Berkeley. She will be forever in the hearts of her children, Thomas J. Manning III and family of Round Rock, TX, and Carolyn A. Manning of Berkeley. Helen was active in the PTA of the School of the Madeleine where her children attended, loved to gather with friends to play bridge and socialize, and was devoted to her grandchildren, Thomas IV and Madison. Later in life he volunteered her time at the School of the Madeleine. Helen's gifts to us were many but none compared to her gift of encouragement - always looking for the good in people and pulling for the underdog. Family and friends are invited to the Interment at Saint Joseph's Cemetery, San Pablo, CA, at 9:30 am Friday, March 14, 2008, and a Memorial Mass at her home parish of Saint Mary Magdalen, Berkeley, CA, 11:00 Friday, March 14, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the School of the Madeleine, 1225 Milvia St., Berkeley, CA 94709.

Dearest Popovich family,

I was so sadden to hear of your loss. May God's comfort and loving Grace be with each of you during this time. Our family has been so truly blessed with such wonderful members like Helen and all the others we have lost. We should all stop and be grateful for the opportunities we have been given to have each of them in our lives and the impact they have had on us. God has made it obvious that he keeps our family close to him because of the many gifts he has given us. I will continue to be so PROUD to be a member of this family and thank God every day for that chance.

Good health and Blessings to all of you!

Carolyn and Tom,
My dad talked with Helen at Christmas time and said she sounded terrific. We remember many fun moments on Grizzly Peak with both Helen and Tom and I can recall babysitting the two of you.
Your mom was a great gal - always fun, energetic, and full of the latest news.
I'm sorry for your loss - but I know she is with Tom now and probably organizing the next bridge game!

With sincere condolences,

Terry Grange and
The Grange Family
