Henry Pruden Obituary

Henry O. "Hank" Pruden

Beloved husband, father, teacher and friend, Professor Henry "Hank" Pruden of Sausalito died suddenly on August 26. He was 81.
Born in San Francisco to Oliver and Maria Quiñones Pruden, Hank grew up on a small ranch in Manton, CA. After graduating from Red Bluff High School, he served in the US Air Force in photo intelligence. Hank went on to CSU, Chico, then earned an MBA from UC Berkeley and a PhD in Marketing (with Honors) from the University of Oregon.
In 1976 he settled in Ross with his wife Sarah and their daughters. From his office in the Ross Garage, Hank pursued his passion for finance, trading his own account and developing technical market analysis courses at Golden Gate University, where he was Professor of finance and marketing and Executive Director of the Institute of Technical Market Analysis at the time of his death. Hank was past president of the Technical Securities Analysts Association-SF and served on the boards of GGU and the Market Technicians Association (MTA).
An avid researcher, Hank published articles in many countries, spoke on six continents, and in 2007 authored The Three Skills of Top Trading. The MTA honored Hank with a lifetime achievement award in April, 2017, as did the International Federation of Technical Analysts in 2013.
Hank treasured his connections with all kinds of people and assumed and encouraged the best in others. Known for the twinkle in his eye, he was an enthusiastic listener who treated even acquaintances as friends.
Henry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sarah Price Pruden; daughters Laura Pruden and Carolyn Pruden Dahlman; his adoring grandchildren Isadora and Sophia Brink, and Charles and Henry Dahlman; sister Marie Froome; nephews Joseph and David Froome, and John Price; and niece Wendy Price.
Gifts in memory of Dr. Henry O. Pruden may be made to Child Aid for education in Guatemala, Saint Francis Foundation in support of the Saint Francis Memorial Hospital or the University of Oregon Foundation for scholarships.
A memorial service will be held at Fernwood Funeral Home in Mill Valley at 3pm on Thursday, October 19.

Charles Dahlman you had a Super Wonderful grandfather. He was a great teacher and he was my favorite professor at the University of Texas. The very best to you and your family. Dr. Pruden is a person never to be forgotten.

I was very happy to received a message reminding me of Dr. Pruden. He was such a wonderful person.

He did not stay at the University of Texas for long as I recall. But, neither did I as the US Army told me I had "won their lottery" and they invited me to visit beautiful Monterey, CA's Fort Ord as a to-be US Army Infantryman.

I am refreshed to learn that Dr. Pruden lived on the north side of San Francisco Bay. That is just wonderful. It is such a beautiful place and one that I always enjoy visiting. My older uncle was to depart for Pearl Harbor in a B-17 on 7 December 1941 from the US Army Air Field on the north side of San Francisco Bay just a few miles north of where Dr. Pruden apparently lived. Although my uncle was shot down exactly 60 days later and lost at sea I have special memories of where Dr. Pruden lived for so many years. And, so families are tied together in many unique ways sometimes.

Dr. Pruden was my most memorable first college professor in all the right ways. He had a fun spirit and an intellectual curiosity. I truly, truly enjoyed his Marketing classes and I took most of of those Marketing classes from him.

While he resided in Austin, he lived just a few blocks from Lake Austin in a rented house. So, just like his being around San Francisco Bay he seemed to have a love for water and a pretty place from long ago.

I miss him. I never thought in my old age I would be pursing a doctorate degree. But, a part of that is due to the enthusiasm of Dr. Henry O. Pruden.

I know your entire family, as do many others, miss him greatly. Blessings upon your family.

Very Sincerely,
Alan Teal, CPA, MBA, MS-IT, CISA

I have thought of Dr. Pruden many times over the years. However, I may have the wrong Henry O. Pruden. The Dr. Pruden that taught me at the University of Texas in Marketing had his PhD from Berkley and he had been in the Air Force in South Texas. The Dr. Pruden that I knew was a wonderful person. He left an impact on my life as I obtained the first of six degrees. He lived close to Lake Austin and in fact I took him water skiing once (after I had finished receiving my classes and grades from him.) He was a person that enjoyed his work and I enjoyed learning from him. I am sure that so many people, including myself, will miss him. Blessings to the family.

I am sorry to hear of Henry's passing. He was a true market student, teacher. He and I were both graduates of Stock Market Institute, the Richard D. Wyckoff school, spending years in the study of that subject.

Dear Sarah,

I joined Lucy last night for a supper and was sadden to hear you had lost Hank. I had a grand first Ashland trip with you and Hank looking forward to 2018. During one of our theatre walks Hank told me his story and I about my husband Tom. Such an easy new friend. I am also going to secure three copies of Three Skills of Top Trading for my grandsons.
May perpetual light shine upon his soul. Wishing you strength going forward. Sincerely, Salena
