Dear Auntie Annie, Steven, Laurie, and Stan,

Debbie just found out about the passing of Uncle Shiro. I'm so very sorry. We had no idea.

I have wonderful memories as a young child, of spending time together. It's very special to know the two of you, were my parents best friends. Seeing both of you (Best Man and Maid of Honor) in my parents wedding picture just reminds me of how far back your friendship went. I've heard such funny stories from Mom about the fun time spent with you and Uncle Shiro.

After Dad passed, having both of you visit was very comforting. I remember sensing how 'normal' it seemingly felt for mom.

Uncle Shiro tried fixing our dining table, and I'm sure mom asked him to do other tasks. I don't remember if Uncle was actually handy with tools or if he just winged it (my dad was definitely NOT), It was just a feeling of stability for me, having you both there.

I've always remembered Steven, Laurie, and Stan as cousins. Most of my conscious memories are of Laurie visiting us with both of you. Eventually, hearing about her training to be a proper Japanese wife. Progressing to a visit with Yachan (?) for dinner, who said absolutely nothing. Then again neither did I. Finally with her first baby boy. Mom's determination to send Laurie M and M's became a fun project.

I'll always remember the feeling of a the strong bond you and Uncle had with my mom and dad. It was really the few times I remember Mom and Dad socialize with longtime friends, that overlapped into my life.

Auntie Annie, I'm not sure where you are now, but would appreciate knowing. We only have your old San Francisco address (I think). Karen and I share the same house in Alameda.

I will remember Uncle Shiro, his humor, wit, and kindness. I won't forget the sound of the four of you laughing together, and easy banter shared.

To the Suenega Family, on behalf of the Matsuura Family, please accept my deepest condolences. I hope the love and support of those around you have given you comfort.

Much Love,
Gayle Matsuura Alves
(George and Sumi's 3rd kid!)
