Holly Haste (Thuman) Winslow Passed away peacefully in San Francisco on August 24, 2011, surrounded by family. Born in Los Angeles, California on April 25, 1928, she attended UCLA and Mannes Music School in New York, then transferred to Stanford University. She graduated from Stanford with a Bachelors in Music and Political Science and a Masters in Music. She continued performing at Stanford under Sandor Salgo for many years. In 1979, she married Ward Winslow, a local historian and Editorial Page Editor of the Peninsula Times Tribune. Ward (known as "Dode" to friends) died in 2000. Always an avid gardener, Holly worked as a docent at the Strybing Arboretum in her retirement. She was an original member of a book club, "Booktasters," for over 40 years. Holly and Dode loved to travel and took many wonderful trips together and with family, increasing their travel after retirement. She was a lover of animals, enjoyed a good murder mystery, and played a good game of bridge. She is survived by children Holly Anne, Carol, Teresa (Ray), Lynne, Parmita, Edward (Christina), Mary (Peter), and grandchildren Melinda, Evan, Molly, Tyler, and Morgan. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 17th at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 1040 Border Road, Los Altos, California 94024. A celebration will follow the service.
