Howard Jackson Obituary

Howard B. Jackson

June 10, 1932 - December 15, 2016

Howard B. Jackson passed away peacefully on 12/15/16, after a valiant battle with cancer. A native of Louisiana, Howard served in the U.S. Air Force, afterwards attended Grambling State University, relocated to San Francisco and married in 1957. Howard furthered his education by obtaining a degree in Business Management from Golden Gate University. Howard was a member of the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) and served in many capacities. He was a founding member of the Officers For Justice, an organization focused on promoting social justice and equality within the SFPD. Howard was one of three men who were the first African Americans placed in the rank of Lieutenant. Howard retired from the SFPD after having served with distinction for 25 years. Howard was known for his passion to mentor others towards the achievement of personal excellence. Among Howard's favorite past times were reading, crossword puzzles, horse racing, fishing & golf. Howard is beloved and mourned by his daughter Andrea J. Stewart, granddaughter Alexandra Stewart, son in law Bruce Stewart, sisters Dorothy Gage and Eunice Turner, treasured nieces, nephews and cousins, the family of long time companion the late Shirley L. Sullivan, cherished friends, and a very special canine "Lola". Friends may attend the Memorial Service on Thursday, 12/22/16 at 11am at Duggans Serra Mortuary in Daly City, CA.

A very special friend has gone to sleep. A man with a uniqueness unlike most. Memories of his friendship will long be cherished. Great conversations, laughter, deep thoughts. He knew how to live and choose options. His commitment to improving the life of people, especially young people was remarkable. He not only talked about it but did what he could to make a difference. All who knew him can look forward to the day when Jesus comes and awakens those who now sleep. Eternity will provide the opportunity for family and friends to resume relationships that will never again be interrupted.
My deepest condolences to his wonderful daughter and her family at this time. He was so proud of you.

He had a command presence that motivated people to be honest and uphold the highest standards. He was a true GIANT that many people watched and learned the lessons of life. He will truly be missed but never forgotten.
