Irving Jarkovsky Obituary

Irving Jarkovsky

November 23, 1921 - April 25, 2017

Irving Jarkovsky, 95, a true native of San Francisco, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on April 25, 2017. He was married and devoted to the love of his life, Helen Jarkovsky, for 57 years. He was a loving father to Carol Smith, Jill Jarkovsky, Sandi Blair and Ron Blair, and a loving father-in-law to Carol Cohen and Jerry Smith. He was a wonderful and warm grandfather to Cory Stein, Shawn Stein, Jesse Stein and Hannah Tikalsky (Brandon Tikalsky).
Irving graduated from Lowell High School and was drafted on his 18th birthday for the army. He served his country in World War II, then went on to attend and graduate from UC Berkeley, majoring in architecture. He went on to work for many years for the City and County of San Francisco for the Department of Public Works. He had a keen eye for design and worked on many city buildings and projects.
His main hobby was photography and he was fortunate enough to travel with his wife extensively throughout the world, taking beautiful photographs along the way. He also enjoyed tennis, bowling, sketching and listening for long hours to music.
He was a long time member of Sherith Israel. Services will be held at Congregation Sherith Israel, 2266 California St., San Francisco on Thursday, May 4th at 12 noon. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred. Donations can be sent to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, (pva.org), or a charity of your choice.

Dear Helen,
I was sorry to read that dear Irving passed away. I remember the many times we sat with you at ACT and discussed the many plays that we saw together. May your memories of your times together soon return to only pleasant ones. Maybe I'll see you sometime at NCJW meeting. My thoughts are with you at this time.
