Jacqueline McMahon Obituary

Jacqueline Geiger McMahon

June 17, 1931 - May 15, 2015

The best wife, mother and friend a person could have. Generous, patient, supportive, always positive and beloved by many, she never complained. A S.F. Giants fan to the end.

Jackie passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 15, 2015. Born to June and Kathrynn Geiger she was raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She moved to San Francisco in the early 1950's and married Edward James McMahon in 1955. They resided briefly in Santa Rosa before moving to San Francisco so Dad could begin work at Bancroft Whitney publishing. She and Ed raised the boys on Jersey Street before moving to Daly City in 1967. She became the ultimate Mom. She was a Cub Scout den mother, kid's chauffeur, coach, bookkeeper, proud housewife and extraordinary homemaker. She became a member of the local PTA's and the Mother's Clubs at St. Ignatius and St. Thomas More schools. We went on vacation each summer with the Gerken family to Pine Grove (Cobb, CA). Mom and Hilde Gerken spoke every night at 5:00 to chat about everything, but mostly kids and grandchildren. With all three boys attending St. Ignatius, she began working at a pediatric medical office in Stonestown. After sacrificing for many years and upon their 3 sons graduating college, Mom and Dad were finally able to afford to travel. They visited many places in Europe and she loved every moment of it. Her one regret was her and Dad not visiting the Vatican. She loved reading, playing crossword puzzles, bridge, tennis and taking exercise and dance classes at Doelger Senior Center. She bowled in many leagues at both Serra and Westlake bowls with many different teammates. For many years she tutored adults who could not read. She was a volunteer for professional tennis tournaments in San Francisco. She never missed Jeopardy, Blue Bloods or a televised Giants game. She was a devout Catholic and was proud to send her boys to Catholic Schools.

Her favorite moments in life came when her grandchildren arrived. She absolutely loved Chris, Jon, Allie, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Luis and Natalie. As with her own children, Mom would do anything for the grandkids. After having three sons and two grandsons, she beamed with joy when Allie came along and she could finally shop for girl's clothing and dolls for the first time. This continued with Lauren, Kaity and Natalie.

After Dad became ill, she took loving, kind and supportive care of our father, missing him greatly when he passed in 2003. She developed many new friendships and took long neighborhood walks with Eleanor, and museum visits with Marche. She greatly enjoyed and appreciated recent visits and kindnesses from Eleanor's daughter Carol Alexander, lunches with Lorraine D'Elia, and lunches with her Doelger friends at Harding Park. She attended many events and movies with her good friend Jackie Johnson. Special thanks to long time friends, Hilde and Wendy Gerken, Peggy Hennessey Teshara, Rosie Johnston, Evie Schoepp, the Headmans, Dolores in Texas and Eleanor in Chicago, D'Ann Quan (she enjoyed dinners with you and your Hawaiian cookies), Russell Gil, Laurel Gil O'Connor and all the Gil family. Special thanks to Idamarie (Idy) Gil McMahon.

Jackie McMahon is survived by her three McMahon boys, Edward, Richard and James McMahon; daughters in law, Idamarie, Sonia and Carol Mythen McMahon; grandchildren Chris, Jon, Allie, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Luis and Natalie, who loved her in return; brothers Don, Dick and Jim Geiger and their spouses and families; sister, Mary June.

Mom was proud of her siblings and their families and was planning a surprise visit to them in Michigan later this year. She was so happy to develop a close friendship with her little sister Mary June while living across country. Mom enjoyed her visits with in-laws Martin and Judy McMahon in South Carolina and looked forward to her phone chats with them and keeping up with their children, Sean, Shannon and Erin. We appreciate Uncle Marty and Aunt Judy keeping in touch with Mom after Dad passed.

A memorial service will be held at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City, CA on Saturday, May 23, 2015. Visitation starts at 11:30 and a service at 12 noon.

I can't believe it has been 4 years. I still miss my big sister. I wish we could have spent more time together. All three of our brothers have passed in the last 3 years. They can all tease her in heaven like they loved to do here on earth.

I am deeply saddened by Aunt Jackie's unexpected passing. I have many wonderful memories that I will be holding on to for comfort in my time of grief.

Jackie was my big sister and I will miss her so much. Jackie left home when I was in kindergarten and I never really knew her until we got older. In the last few years we talked a lot on the phone and finally got to know one another. I always thought she was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. We spoke about our mother and shared stories about growing up. She hated cats and I liked to chase her around with our cat. She was not a farm girl!! I know she is in heaven with our mother and father and they will take good care of her. Thank you to all her friends and family. Love to my nephews, Ed, Rick and Jim and all the grandkids.
