James Bogue Obituary

James Maurice Bogue

Oh, to be Jim Bogue! Truly one of a kind who lived life to the fullest for 91 years. Jimmy passed away peacefully on May 25, 2021 with his children by their "Daddy Boy's" side. A proud native of San Francisco Jim was born on June 11, 1930 to John and Ruth Bogue. He attended St. Peter's Grammar School, and Mission High School where he fell in love with his childhood sweetheart Maureen Mahoney. After serving his country in the US Army, he returned home and in 1955 married Maureen, the love of his life. He finally became an official member of the Mahoney clan who he adored. Jim followed in his father's footsteps and joined the San Francisco Fire Department in 1958. He worked alongside his father Grandpa Bogue, brother Jack, brother-in-law Dick Fall and nephews Tom, Tim, Chris Callen and Tom Kurpinsky; it was a family affair. He spent the majority of his 31 years working out of Station 6 at Sanchez and Market which became his second home. Jim was a treasured icon known as "The San Francisco Singing Fireman". He sang for many generations blessing families with his beautiful voice for the most important events in their lives; weddings, funerals, birthdays, retirements, baptisms and just about any celebration, Jim was there singing! He will live on in song as he has filled the hearts of so many with his amazing gift from God.

Jim is survived by his 7 children: Jim, Erin, Katie (Michael) Murray, Danny (Heather deceased), Kevin (Paul Sebolsky), Bridget (Rudy) Koopen and Deirdre (Mike) Livingston. His legacy will live on through them, his grandchildren and great-grandson: Michael (deceased), Patrick, Dominic and Jimmy Murray, Ryan and Collin Shine (Stephanie) and Beau Shine. Dear Brother and Brother-in-Law to Thomas Bogue, Mary Lou and Dick Fall, Caryl and George DeMerritt, Michael Bogue, Frank McNamee and Jean Ellsworth. "Uncle Jim" will always be remembered lovingly by many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maureen. He was lucky to find love again with Sherry and Elaine Bogue (and their families). He joins his cherished family: Kathleen Bogue, Patricia Bogue, Nydia Bogue, Ruth (Tom) Callen, Jack (Shirley) Bogue, Georgia (George) Carrozzi, Joan Ellsworth, Jack Ellsworth and Marilyn McNamee in heaven.

Jim will be profoundly missed by his family and all who knew him, but he will live forever in our hearts.

A Funeral Mass and his Birthday will be celebrated on Friday, June 11th, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 17th Ave., San Francisco, CA 94116.

Donations may be made in his name to San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation, https://www.sffcpf.org/

Jim and his beautiful voice were such a gift to so many people. He sang at my wedding and also at a number of funerals in the Murray family. My family was fortunate to know Jim and Jack Bogue through the wonderful SFFD "family". Godspeed to a very special and gifted man.

My first day out of the SFFD fire college, I was assigned to TK 6 on the A watch. Jim was on my first watch and I learned much from him and our LT. Ovid Seyler. Loved doing house work at Station 6 because Jim was always singing and his songs resonated throughout the firehouse. A great guy to work with and I am proud to say I worked with his Dad John (E-17) and Capt, Jack at Tk 3. Love our memories with Jim.

After leaving Fire Dispatch, I was assigned to Engine 6. Jim was on Truck 6. A true gentleman, always had a nice thing to say with a smile on his face. Heard him sing at events and was amazed how heart felt his singing was.

Jim was an important cog in many generations of Bogue. He has a wide reaching legacy. The "Singing Fireman" sang at my grandmother's funeral (Catherine Albrecht) in 1979 at St. John's Church. I can still hear his angelic voice and remember how his singing helped me heal. May he rest in peace and now lead the heavenly choir.
Condolences to his entire family.
