James Carter Obituary

Our beloved Father and Husband James Allen Carter passed away at age 91 on December 9, 2025. Born in Kentucky, he served in the Army Air Corps in Germany in the 50s where he developed a lifelong love of flying, later moving to the Bay Area in 1960. He clerked on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal for Justice Hamley, then practiced labor law at several local firms including Kelso, Cotton and Ernst and Littler, Mendelsohn and Fastiff before founding what would become Carter, Carter, Fries & Grunschlag in 1993. He was a proud member of the Land of Happiness Camp at the Bohemian Grove, and much enjoyed evenings with friends drinking wine and talking story at the Bohemian Club. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Marilyn, sons Scott and Brian and daughter Michelle, and granddaughters Elisabeth and Jenna.
