James Foudy Obituary

James Vincent "Vince" Foudy

May 30, 1940 – June 17, 2018

James Vincent "Vince" Foudy, a native San Franciscan, was born to the late James and Anna Foudy on May 30, 1940, the oldest of 4 children. Vince graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Saint Mary's College, and served in the National Guard. In 1965 he married the love of his life, Barbara (Kinavey) Foudy who pre-deceased him in 2014. They moved to Livermore where they raised 4 children, Jim, Colleen, John and Barbara Ann.
Vince worked as a Controller for Allis-Chalmers/Kalmar for more than 40 years; was an IRS enrolled agent and worked for H&R Block for more than 20 years.
In 1965 Vince and Barbara joined a small group of people who started and supported the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Community. The first services were held at the Vine Theatre in Livermore. The parishioners created the mission statement: "Not a place where, but a people who." Although the community moved to a permanent facility in 1968 this statement has endured for 50 years.
Vince's passion was woodworking. When the children were young, he converted his garage to a wood shop and taught classes in the Livermore 4-H program. Throughout the years many children and adults were the recipients of his generosity and skill.
Vince is survived by his children: Jim (Alison) Foudy, Colleen Oddy, John (Jennifer) Foudy and Barbara Ann (Marlin) McMonigal; 14 grandchildren: Austin, Marcus (Ivy), Grace and Aila Foudy; Kenny, Rebecca, Cody, Anna, Maddie and David Oddy; Joshua and Judah Foudy; and Matthew and Anna McMonigal.
His is also survived by his brother Bill (Carol) Foudy, sister Ann Foudy, sisters-in-law Marianne Newman, Cynthia Kinavey, Jean Kinavey, Sherry Kinavey and brother-in-law John Kinavey.
Vigil will be held on Monday, June 25 at 7 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church located at 1315 Lomitas Ave, Livermore, CA 94550. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 26 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice, Quail Garden, or St. Charles Borromeo Church.
