James Glueck Obituary

James Patrick "Jim" Glueck
February 22, 2024
James Patrick "Jim" Glueck, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 22nd, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born and raised in San Francisco, for the past 45 years he has called Benicia, Calif., home.
As a native San Franciscan he enjoyed exploring and adventuring in the City with his siblings, extended family, many cousins, and good friends, as well as spending summers at the Russian River. He attended St. Emydius Elementary School, Lincoln High School, City College of San Francisco; and was a graduate of San Jose State and the University of San Francisco. He was of course a diehard fan of both the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers.
He began his professional career as an Industrial Arts Teacher. He then went on to work in the construction industry, founding his own business and eventually finding his passion working as a Construction Superintendent. He recently shared that his favorite project was The Fruitvale Village Project in Oakland, Calif. He had a reputation of always being fair and made friends of his colleagues at every step of the way. He retired from Roberts-Obayashi Corporation in 2014.
Jim was active with his children and in his community; there are many fond memories of Father/Son, Father/Daughter outings through Y-Indian Guides where he made cherished friendships. He volunteered his time to help coach girls' softball and attended countless swimming, softball, volleyball, cross country, soccer, and water polo events cheering on his children. He served on the St Patrick-St Vincent Board of Regents in Vallejo CA and was someone everyone knew they could count on. In his retirement he explored coast-to-coast in the motorhome he shared with his wife Susie and their dog Hunter. He loved time at "The Hide Out" in Dorrington, Calif., spending time with family, and cherished his weekly cycling outings with lifelong friends up until September of 2023.
Jim was a beloved husband, father, Pa/Grandpa, brother, uncle, godfather, friend, mentor and so much more. He is deeply missed and will live on through our memories. He is survived by his wife, Susie of 51 years; children, Brendan (Mande) Glueck, and Ann (Jeff) Brooner; his adoring grandchildren, Travis (12), Hannah (10), and Desmond (8); siblings, Jerry (Margaret) Glueck, Nancy (Don) McCann, Frank (Linda) Cookson, Tom (Jan) Cookson, sister-in-law, Kelly Toy Cookson, Marie (Richard) Thomas, Bernadette Stone, Art (Louise) Glueck, and Bill Glueck; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ann Glueck, Arthur Glueck and Bernadette Glueck; brother, Andrew Cookson; and brother-in-law, Ron Stone. He was recently reunited with his beloved Golden Retriever, Hunter.
Celebration of life will be held March 15, 11 a.m. at Duggans-Serra Daly City, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.

Susie Glueck and All the Families...I went to Lincoln HS in SF with Jim and graduated with him in 1965. I also lived a few homes away from a cousin of his growing up in SF. We had a group of friends in high school who we hung out with and he was always such a nice person. I live now down in The High Desert of Calif. after many yrs. in Mendocino Co. and have not been able to keep track of the friends from HS. I am so sorry to hear that he passed away. I pray for God's peace and comfort for you all. Jim was always one of those people that you remember in life that you never forget as one of the good ones.

Jim Susie and Family,
They have been my neighbors and Friends for a short time, but they are the kind of Friends that you are blessed to have in your life. I'm very grateful.
Jim would offer help when every he thought I was in need. I really enjoyed it when they were at the Hide Out. It was so nice to look out my window and see Jim, Susie and Hunter out for their daily walk. Sometimes Jim would give Hunter his leash and Hunter would walk himself home. That always made me smile. Jim will truly be missed, by everyone who knew him. It's a blessing to know Jim and Hunter are resting in a very special place now and forever. Jim is a special person, and we look forward to the day we all meet again. Rest in peace my friend and neighbor. Till we meet again, Shirley.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jim and Susie through their children. I can say I taught and watched both graduate and have stayed in contact with them. I remember many parent/teacher nights teaching all the parents how to draw and then posted the beautiful art work in my room for the my students to find their parent´s refrigerator art. Jim will be missed by many and the memories will be blessing to everyone that knew him. Prayers for Susie and the entire family. Hugs
