August 31, 1946 - April 2, 2015
On the evening of April 2nd, 2015, James Davis Hackett passed away due to complications resulting from pancreatic cancer. Born on August 31st, 1946 to Louise and Glenn Hackett, Jim grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. As a young man he discovered his interest in psychology, history, and politics, all of which remained with him throughout his life. In high school and college he sang in the Men's Glee Club and Chapel Choir, and always had a love of music, particularly James Taylor, Paul Simon, and the Beatles. Jim was an analytic person with a talent for numbers that ultimately guided him toward a career in banking. A graduate of Duke and Harvard, Jim worked on the East Coast for over twenty years, before relocating to California where he worked most recently as Senior VP and Senior Client Manager of Global Banking & Markets for Bank of America, until his death. Though he was an only child, Jim had a large family of his own - his "whole world", all of whom he saw as often as possible, and was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Shaune, his four daughters: Carey Hackett, Kim Reagan-Hackett, Kaitlyn Diebel, and Kelly Hackett, his three grand-children: Quinn Diebel, Jack Diebel, and Nathan Reagan-Hackett, and three partners of his children that he loved as his own, Erica Reagan-Hackett, Patrick Diebel, and John Porter. Jim was a devoted follower of the Sunday funnies, Duke Basketball, and the SF Giants. Always intellectually curious, he read a huge variety of publications, and often cut out articles from magazines and newspapers for his family and friends, particularly his daughters, encouraging them to move forward with an interest, or expand their knowledge on a subject they'd recently talked with him about. Jim was generous, donating to several charities throughout the country, and most recently was a board member for Shelter Inc. of Contra Costa County. His smile, sincerity, clever sense of humor, and grace will be deeply missed by family and friends. In Lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shelter Inc. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, April 10th.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

It has been over 3 months since Jim left us and my heart still aches every morning when I look at his picture that sits on my desk thinking that I can't see him or speak with him again, but we shall meet again.
I wish Jim's entire family strength and patience and my sincerest condolences for their great loss. Jim will always be in my heart and his family in my thoughts.
Cheers Jim - Despite losing you as a dear friend, still, I have been very fortunate to have known you.

Jim was here on Earth to make it a better place. He succeeded in that goal and my love goes out to his "girls." He left here too soon for all of us who will miss him. We, who were his Sequoia family, will keep your family in our thoughts and be here for support.

Mark and I, and the rest of the State Treasurer's Office family are deeply saddened by Jim's passing. He serviced the State of California Treasurer's Office with such passion and commitment and someone we truly called a friend. We surely miss him... he will forever be in our hearts and minds. Our condolences to the Hackett family during this difficult time - he thought the world of all of you.

My heart and prayers to the Hackett family. Jim was an exceptional gentlemen with a wonderful intellect, a big heart and a great sense of humor. I am proud to have had the privilege of knowing him as a client focused Bank of America associate and a friend. He will truly be missed but will always be in our memory. God bless.

My condolences to the Hackett family. Jim gave me my first opportunity in banking on his team at BofA, National Markets. He was a great leader and an amazing man.

Jim made a very positive impression on me as a gentleman, man of great humor and intellect and one who cared for people and exhibited great patience. I worked with Jim in the glory days of BofA when we had John Rodelli leading our Sales team. I continued to work with Jim as we both called on State of California Treasurers Office and he always exhibited a great sense of humor and was always willing to listen and offer advice if asked for. He is a man to emulate and he will be missed. My prayers continue to be with Jim and his family.

To Jim's family:
Please know how extraordinarily special Jim was to us all. As a colleague and team mate, his intellect, wit, self-depreciation and common sense carried us all. It is so difficult to believe that he won't continue to be among us -- I am so grateful that his spark lives on in us all. May you find comfort in the incredible joy that he brought to me and others.

I have fond memories of Jim from Bank of America (I'm in Marketing, and he managed the group for a while). I remember Jim's great smile and sense of humor, and him talking about his home "full of girls" - his love of family and his daughters was strong. Very sad to hear this news.
