James Hutton Obituary

James Andrew Hutton

March 5, 1948 - June 25, 2015

James Andrew Hutton, age 67, passed away on June 25 from complications related to prostate cancer. Jim lived for many years in Napa, California where his work as an architect was primarily focused in the area of health care. A decade ago Jim relocated to San Francisco to accept employment as an architect with Anshen + Allen on The Laguna Honda Hospital Replacement Project. Jim was born to George and Margaret Hutton on March 5, 1948 in Burbank, California. He showed an artistic talent as a young lad and always had a passion for the beauty around him. Jim was graduated from the University of Southern California as a Master Architect and followed that career for the remainder of his life. He was an avid reader and enjoyed intellectual conversations. One of Jim's legacies was overcoming cancer for twenty years through a vegan life style and purified water combined with copious exercise.
Jim is survived and loved by his parents George and Margaret Hutton of Lacey, Washington, his sister Judy Sullivan of Charlotte, North Carolina, her children and their families, and his longtime friend and companion Gregory Zak of Napa.
Jim requested donations in his memory be sent to Commonweal, PO Box 316, Bolinas, CA 94924. Donations will support the Commonweal Cancer Help Program. Family and friends will gather to remember Jim on Saturday October 3 at 10 am at the Aldea Center, University of California, San Francisco - Parnassus Campus, 155 Johnstone Drive. There we will enjoy a continental breakfast and share memories of Jim, followed by a tree planting in nearby Sutro Forest.

My dear Jim,

I didn't want to think that it was true. When I didn't hear from you after your birthday this year, I had to face what I feared. I'm so sorry I didn't know sooner. I am so glad you are no longer suffering. You were a true fighter and an inspiration.

You have always been in my thoughts and prayers, my friend. You were a big part of my life, my memories. You always will be. You were my oldest friend - we met 56 years ago in junior high school, and were inseperable for the next seven years, through high school and our first year in college.

We had so much fun together back then, dancing at the sock hops, designing homecoming floats, making "Hutton Buttons". I'm so glad we reconnected in recent years. Sorry we didn't communicate more often.

I will miss you terribly. Your loving friend forever, Linda Friend Davis

P.S. My condolences to your family.

Dear Jim, I am so sorry when I received the massage this morning - that you have left the planet.

Even these days I still enjoy thinking about you and the wisdom of yours - you loved to share with me while we where working together in Don's office in Napa.

You left tracks in peoples life - like you did in mine...

Thank you Jim!

You left your worldly body - to see higher grounds...

Here on earth you will live on ... in the heart of the people who appreciated you - for yourself...

Thank you again - my friend.

We were saddened to read today that not only that Jim had died, but that it was many weeks ago. We only kept in touch the past few years by email, but thought of him often. We will certainly try to be at the October 3rd gathering. We miss you Jim.
