James Torrance Love died of natural causes on June 5, 2022, just shy of his 97th birthday. He enjoyed an active and healthy life full of travel, walking, tennis and golf, followed by a slow decline from dementia. Jim was born and grew up in Everett, WA as the second child of James Thompson Love and Alva (Katherine) Johnson Love. Immediately after graduating from high school in 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a corpsman in the Pacific during WWII. In 1945 he attended University of Oregon where he earned a BA in Business, and met and subsequently married Donna June Rankin in 1949. In 1950 they moved to San Francisco, CA where he tried several careers before finding his perfect fit in the stocks and bonds business. He and Donna raised 4 sons in San Mateo and Hillsborough, CA while he worked in San Francisco. As a broker, investment banking manager, and personal investment advisor, he had a very successful career. He started his own brokerage in San Mateo, CA, which was subsequently acquired by Kidder Peabody, Inc. of New York, where he worked for most of his career, rising to the level of Director of the 11-state Western Region. In 1989, many years after he and Donna divorced, he married Peggy Jean Field, with whom he enjoyed a 19-year marriage before she died of cancer in 2008. He lived the remainder of his life in Healdsburg and Cupertino, CA. Jim is remembered for his strong work ethic and generosity. He helped grandchildren with college expenses and supported numerous charitable organizations including the American Red Cross and Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. He also served on the board of the University of Oregon School of Business for many years. He loved to host large family gatherings at the St. Francis Yacht Club and at his homes in San Francisco, Healdsburg, and Lake Tahoe. He is survived by four sons, Mathew Torrance Love (Joan), Samuel Dare Love, John Rankin Love (Holliday), and Martin Taylor Love, cousins in the US and Sweden, plus numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister, Marilynn Ann Love (2012).
